Guest guest
Elaine was x-rayed to rule it out even though they were sure it was plagio. They needed to run x-rays to help identify her 'skull mass' anyway so they did the whole thing, probably more to cover their butts than anything else. As for craniosynotosis, that happens when parts of the skull fuse too soon. There's a distinctive misshape depending on which areas fuse. They probably didn't go the x-ray route because they felt your child didn't come close to fitting that profile. As for plagio, it's not just cosmetic once it reaches a certain point. People don't have 100% round heads, but a misshapen one past a point will cause issues down the road. Depending on the severity I've heard everything from vision problems to chronic migraines as side effects. You'll also have the other issues like bike helmets and other head gear not fitting properly. I don't think there is a lot of research out there on it, but what there is all seems to say it's not purely a cosmetic issue. I don't have the link handy on adults living with plagio, perhaps someone else will. Reading through that alone will let you know you've made the right choice. Mom to Elaine (twin A) 6 mos old, in her helmet 1 1/2 months.
