Guest guest
Hi Jfogarty75 - First off, there are several options other than Nystatin. In fact, I've read that because of how widespread Nystatin use has been, there are many yeasts that are resistant to it. Many others in our situation have used Diflucan. There are other options. We are on Nystatin with good results. We saw some very, VERY nasty die off when he went on it. (I think you responded to me re: die off rash w/scd). You are nuking different bugs here. Hold on tight, buy some spirits and be prepared to lose a weekend. We get our Nystatin in powder form and there isn't anything sweet in it, that's for sure. We push it into White Grape juice and it goes down the hatch with ease. I've seen some Drs recommend a calendar of anti fungals to see which one gets the bug. If Nystatin doesn't do the trick, they recommend moving on to another. I'll try to find some more data and send it privately maybe. Good luck. brian --- jfogarty75 wrote: > MY son is on SCD and had a stool test done he has > alot of yeast. The > doctor said the only thing to kill the yeast is > Nystatin. Guest guest
-we have seen cranky stuff with but nothing I would really call - DIE OFF- To say we see a huge diff. He still has puffys under eye and the faint look of shiners and to me that is yeast in carter. He has no developmental issues. But has had immune probloms since the day he was born. - lots and lots of antibiotics. My natural path will not give Us Diflucan. ( also our DAN! For our oldest.) I know yeast is a long battle. I just want to give the kid a jump start somehow. AAAHHHH! Thanks. -- In pecanbread , brian scott wrote: > > Hi Jfogarty75 - > > First off, there are several options other than > Nystatin. You can find some info on Yeast, antifungals etc.. at " Yeast and SCD " at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Some parent find the natural antifungals better in the long run.... and feel they've seen a " rebound " effect from Nystatin and other Rx antifungals, making it very hard to quit using them as yeast seems to go crazy as soon as you take the Rx away. Fresh carrot juice with fresh garlic (remedy details are in our " Files " section at this group's homepage), grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano, olive leaf extract.... all of those have been reported to be effective against yeast by many of our list parents. You would want to rotate them.... and give separately from probiotics or yogurt. Stevia is something Elaine did not like.... and would prefer that we did not use.... but, she did say that for those who absolutely could not use honey, and did not want to use saccharin for some reason (although she thought that was the safest sweetener... it just got a bad rap back in the 70's through a poorly done study), she said occasional use of stevia was " okay " . She has comments about stevia posted on her website.... and was just not comfortable deeming it " legal " all the way around. You might ask the compounding pharmacy if they could use saccharin next time you fill the Rx, instead of stevia. Patti Nystatin Hello, my son has been taking Nystain made by a compounding pharmacy using Stevia. Is this illegal on SCD and if so what are other people using for an anti-fungal? His die-off has been pretty bad and I hate not to give him something for the yeast. I know the diet is going to eventually help with the yeast overgrowth, but what do you do in the meantime? Thanks,

Like you said it's strong so go slow. > Candex(again, not sure if it's SCD legal), Yes, it is legal. With svere yeast overgrowth you may want to start low and work up. The die off can be tremendous. > grapefruit seed extract(i've heard it > works wonderfully but i haven't used it).
