Guest guest
Haven't posted in some time, so I thought I'd just take a moment to share our recent experience. My son, 7, dxed severe ADHD w/ autistic symptoms, continues to make gradual gains on strict SCD, interrupted every 2 mos. almost to the day by a regression (we're in one right now). In the regressions, we see silly behavior, decreased focus, anxiety in the form of biting his nails, nervousness in social situations, and occasional loose stools. In each case, we knew the regressions were coming when our son started to make very loud, frequent burps; my sense is that this signals a change in the yeast structure occurring in his digestive tract. After each regression we've seen our most notable gains (and thankfully, the burping subsides). We are then left with a child who is very happy, has healthy skin color, solid stools, and is showing steady improvement in school and in social situations. During the course of this diet we haven't seen any " AHA! " moments, other than the initial normalization of his stools, but we have seen steady improvements in several areas that were of concern when we started the diet, including socialization, language, and academic progress. No sign of yeast activity, but for the regressions. We have mainly stuck to a set group of SCD foods and recipes, but recently have introduced things like zucchini lasagna and zucchini " boats, " and the custard recipe from BTVC. We still have to be careful about the amount of fruit we give. My son has gained 4 pounds over the 4 months and has the appetite of a pro football team. For us, this diet has worked as advertised so far. Best to all, Bill
