Michele,

Iron supplements are not legal on SCD and according to a highly reliable source

iron supplements are being recognized in the medical world as contraindicated

with IBD.

Iron is best absorbed through diet. I would be sure to get some good sources of

iron in your diet..red meat, kale, eggs. Iron from meat sources is absorbed

well, iron from other food groups is absorbed better with Vit C.

You must also be sure that your B12 levels are good too. I am sure there are

more people who know more than me about this but I just want to keep you away

from the supplements.

Re: Collidal Silver- OT

I am borderline anemic; without iron I become anemic. I do not eat

organ meats. The iron supp I take has nothing " illegal " in it. Is

there a problem with this? I'd rather not be anemic as I have enough

health problems.

Thanks, Michele

I do eat eggs & meat, & have B12 shots fairly regularly, but still

have trouble with my iron levels. I can try not taking it & see what

happens. I hadn't taken it for a while & got quite tired again, so

I'm concerned if I don't. I don't know why I would be having a

problem with the meat & eggs I eat (especially now with SCD; eggs

are in so many things) & with the B12 shots... with all my

pregnancies I became anemic & needed iron no matter what I ate.

Is IBD irritible bowel? I don't have that & take a non constipating

form from the health food store. I've never had any trouble so maybe

that would mean I'm okay with it?

Thanks, Michele

,

I am bad at remembering science, so I can't give you all the

explanation for this and the correct terms. But I wonder if you've

had an extensive thyroid check--not just the routine things that are

checked at a physical, but additional testing (T3, T4 come to mind,

but again...I'm science deficient, so the terms might be wrong.)

Here's why I ask. I tested anemic for years and took iron. Then one

day my doctor looked at me and said, " you have a fat neck " (it wasn't

THAT fat) and ordered the more extensive thyroid test. Turns out I

have both Hashimoto's and that other thyroid condition. Now I am on

Synthroid and don't test anemic anymore even without iron supplements.

I read on the internet somewhere (no time to re-research this, sorry)

that having a throid condition can make you look like you're anemic

when you really aren't.

Just trying to pass along something I learned that might help.

My holistic practitioner didn't go into depth but found my results

suspicious enough to suspect Hashimoto's as well. She wanted me to

take Thyroplex but I haven't tried it yet. The ingredients are

hypothalamus (bovine, freeze dried), adrenal (bovine freeze dried),

pituitary, anterior (bovine freeze dried), ovary (bovine, freeze

dried), & thyroid, whole (bovine, freeze dried). Nothing else in it.

She said if I could deal with the ingredients it was a more natural

approach. She said it's safe for nursing moms (even though I read

otherwise). I've been hesitant; not sure if it's legal, so I'm not

doing anything for the thyroid. It was months ago she recommended it.
