Our cat is an inside cat, and except for his occasional hunting successes (bugs,

mice) eats nothing but Bench & Field Holistic Natural Feline from Trader

Joes...oh yes, and our asparagus fern, and presents of kitty grass now & then.

Bench & Field is not grain-free but meat is the first ingredient and rice the

second, it does contain fruits and vegetables, and I called the cat food company

and they check the fish in it for mercury. The cat is incredibly heathy after

3 or 4 years on this diet, so...

When our then-new puppy started eating nothing but cat food, (besides moving the

cat food out of reach!) I bought Bench & Field Holistic Natural Canine Formula.

Picky dog though, our feisty corgi will only eat it plain or moistened if he is

VERY hungry, prefers human food mixed in. Likes to steal and eat apples, likes

treats of other fruit and vegetables. Rather likes most pecanbread recipes

though, including yellow splits peas cooked with meat and mushrooms! Loves

yogurt and especially cheese, which is the way to bribe him to go somewhere he

otherwise refuses to go!

My parents had a friend who was quite the gourmet. He insisted that chicken

feet, slit up the back, were the secret to great chicken broth. (I never tried

it though; the chickens in my yard get buried when they die, and are never

eaten! Nice egg providers, though.)

Marilyn, if you and I didn't live 1000 miles apart, I think we'd have lots of

fun getting together to experiment in the kitchen.

Re: Chicken broth

Lorilyn,

Gee whilikers, my dachshunds would eat cooked chicken, but they'd also look

at me like, " But MOM, you RUINED the giblets by COOKING them! "

<grin>

My dachshunds don't eat dog food -- they, too, are grain free, and in fact,

taking them grain free was what led me to find SCD for myself.

I save a lot of broth from roasted chicken, myself. I also have a farmer

who give me free chicken feet.... the dachshunds want those, too!
