Guest guest
Robin, My pain doc always sedates me when I have the celiac plexus block. The last thing I always remember is seeing something kind of milky white in the IV tube, then I'm out in seconds. I wake up in the recovery room with an ice pack on my back. I typically have mild nausea and moderate pain after the procedure so they give me demerol and phenergan before they disconnect the IV from my port a cath. For me, I do think the blocks help some. They definitely do not eliminate the pain totally. It just seems that I have less pain and am able to eat better with the blocks. However, it didn't seem like the first two helped at all. The third seemed to help a little and the 4th block seemed to help a good bit for about 4 months. I had the 5th block a month ago and it seems to be helping to some degree. Oh, as far as pain from the injection site. The first block I had a moderate amount of pain for a couple of hours. With all the others, any pain in my back has totally subsided by the time I'm in the car on the way home. I do use ice quite a bit for the first 24 hours as recommended by my pain doc. take care,
