Guest guest
I always dread hearing " we want to rule out cf. " In our case, it was ruled IN, back when was six. We'd spent two years thinking we were treating allergic asthma, esp after he " failed " a cf screen, and " passed " a sweat chloride test at our local hospital. Turned out the hospital was using obsolete equipment that a cf doctor later said " belongs in a plastic bag in a garbage can. " The techs from the Denver hospital were conducting an evaluation of the screening tests and wanted to test again, because he'd been positive on the screening and negative on a later test. They redid the screening on one arm, the other test on both arms, at the same time, and got definite, positive results that changed our lives. is now 24, a college graduate, working at Walmart and hoping to move the ladder there. And then, maybe, go back to school for the masters degree. Dori Ownbey... " If I haven't grown up by now, I'm never going to. "
Guest guest
We were " ruling it out " too. 's doc believed that it was allergies and asthma. She had even set up an appointment with a VERY busy specialist for us. She never mentioned a sweat test until she gave a kiss on the forehead. She was a very salty kid. Even then she just wanted to " rule it out " Sometimes I think this is a euphemism for " I think it is CF but I don't want to scare you " and I think occasionally they really do just want to rule it out.
