Guest guest
Hi everyone this is Ted I am a single father of 1 very little special boy who is 5 with CF I have had some recent challenges and would like to see what can be done to resolve them. Can I do it alone. Most likely not. What I need are the issues that impair the development of the family with children with special needs. For single parents the issues that impair employment and frustrate the single parent who is trying there best to provide care and educate others for there child's care and acquire subsidized day care without any money. Hence one does not qualify for E.I. unless there is a caretaker so I can look for or get working. Even from being in a position of homeless My son and I would have to go to the shelters. Anyhow lets see if this message gets through and if so. The details of my experience and the thoughts of dysfunction in the entire system and possible solutions. Guest guest
Hello Ted.Does your child go to a CF clinic? If so does your clinic have a social worker? Have you applied for SSI which also helps with medicaid.Have you tried Department of Social Services they have programs called TANF--EAF the names are Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, and Emergency Aid to Families. Some of these are loans made by DSS to help get you what you need and they have to be repaid .Some are for helping on specific items or services needed but don't have to be repaid.Have you checked into churches for daycare paid by DSS?Some of the pharmacutical companies also have compassion programs where they help patients with no insurance get reduced or free medicines. If you want info I'm sure the people on this list can help as we are from all over the country --alos the whole world.Good Luck in your Quest.BeckyB--.Mama to 8--2w/cf--Nana to
Guest guest
Ted, welcome aboard; with an accurate diagnosis, in the state (California) that I live in, you would be eligible for SSI (Social Security Insurance) for the child and Medicaid for the child and then maybe you could get state-supported day care (which we may lose here) for your little guy and could work. Thank you for telling us about your situation. Others need the information, too. Also, in some states a single parent can get AFDC and Food Stamps and actually stay at home with him at least for a while; that is true here. Highest Hopes! Love, n Rojas, wcf, mom of 3 adults (very), youngest wcf, too; as a widow I have faced this with my youngest! Guest guest
TED- Check with the Dept. of Health in whatever State you live in they are a program that will assist you. Also, many of the CF medications that are costly offer scholarships. If you can pinpoint a need maybe we can help or at least give advice. Hang in there........ Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 11 and 7) with CF. I have a dog named TOBI and have coined the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT "
