Guest guest
Donna, I had to comment on your post regarding the 'itchies' maybe being a sign of an impending acute panc attack. I really hadn't linked the two, but it just occurred to me that I do often have a fairly 'itchy' day several hours before and then several hours or a day or so of being 'itchy' when I have a flare of acute panc. In the past, I just assumed that the itching was from my liver disease and that the panc flare was making my liver unhappy. That may very well be the case, but it also could simply be that the itching is just sometimes a part of what goes along with my acute panc flares! Interesting. Maybe in the future I will cut back on my diet for a day or so when I have more itching. By cutting back, I mean a day or so of basically liquids with some easy to digest things like a couple of crackers. I have been able to avoid the hospital and ER lots of times by giving my belly/panc a rest at home when I feel like things are flaring up. However, sometimes, the attacks come with no warning at all. Other times, I can't tolerate even small amounts of clear liquid. when the attack comes like a sledge hammer with no warning or if I cannot tolerate even clear liquids, it typically means a few days of 'gut rest' in the hospital with IV fluids and nothing by mouth. However, every time I have a 'close encounter' and am able to avoid the hospital and ER, I consider it a major victory! In the future I'm going to pay a little more attention to the itchies in relation to a panc flare! thanks for the info. W alabama

Guest guest
and Lucy, I take atarax for the itching. It is like benadryl, but prescription strength. I also take clarinex every night. Taking the clarinex has helped to cut down on the amount of atarax I need to take. For nausea, I have phenergan tablets and suppositories. I also have zofran tablets. I have found that ginger ale and ginger tea help a lot with nausea. I have ginger peach tea and pineapple ginger tea, both made by the republic of tea. Lucy, I honestly think my illnesses are harder on my loved ones than on me. At least when I get bad enough, I can be put in the hospital and they typically give me enough pain medicine that I'm pretty out of it for the first 24-48 hours. My family doesn't get the luxury of pain medicine to knock them out! They just have to worry and feel totally helpless. My entire family, including my husband are so wonderful to me. It is often very painful for me to see the worry in their eyes. I think that is probably the worst part of dealing with a chronic illness, especially one like cp that causes so much pain, nausea, and discomfort. Please know you and everyone else in the group are in my prayers. W alabama
