Guest guest
I just read something that has me VERY concerned. For background, I've been having episodes of hypoglycemia EVERY DAY now for the past month or so. I've mentioned this to every doctor I've seen and the only one who listened at all was my PCP...who did a NON (I repeat NON!) fasting test and didn't find anything out of the ordinary with my blood levels of whatever it is they look for in hypoglycemia. So, I thought I was out of the woods even though I get this as I said EVERYDAY!! I told the DINK at Lahey about it and he didn't seem concerned so I just thought it was something else that accompanied this disease and chalked it up to yet another symptom. However, I have just read some very disturbing news and of course now I'm bringing it here to the experts for advice. Apparently, an insulinoma (usually benign tumor in 99% of cases thankfully) can be INSIDE of the pancreas, and thus, not apparent on visual testing which is the only kind of testing I've had thus far. The only was to definitively dx it is to do a 72 hour FASTING test and see what the results are. I'm now very scared that this is what I've got and I've got a call into the first gastro doc I saw here locally who was also the one that thought an ERCP w/manometry is indicated. Anyway....they just called me back and the nurse is going to talk to dr and call me back....thoughts anyone?? Any experience here with insulinomas and/or hypoglycemic episodes on a daily basis? Sorry to sound so paranoid, but what I just read was quite disturbing in light of the fact that these tumors are so tiny they are not usually seen on visual type testing which is all I've had to date. thanks as always...
