Guest guest
Jen, my advise to you (I am not a medical person) is to have this checked out immediatly, several ercp's ago I came down with a infection that led to a absess, (I am not trying to scare you) but dont hesitate and have this looked at. The constipation can be attributed to medication, assuming you are on pain meds. Check if there is blood in the stools (they will ask you), better yet take a sample with you. <http://www.mymailstamp.com/?partner=ZMzeb001> <http://www.mymailsignature.com/> ---Original Message----- From: shortstack11 Sent: May 24, 2004 6:26 PM To: pancreatitis Subject: complication after ERCP? Hello to all. Well I went to Toronto to attempt to have stenting done and they couldn't find the duct on my pancreas divisum. The question I am wondering is that I had the ERCP done on Friday and today I noticed that there is blood coming out of my rectum. And when I try to have a bowel movement just blood comes out. Now it's not a lot and I am constipated, so I was wondering if it was due to that. I was just concerned cause I had the ERCP done and was wondering if this could be a complication. Thanks, Jen. I would ask you doc to see if colace will help. It's over the counter. It helped me, especially when I was on morphine. You may have a hemeroid(sp). I did and after taking colace for a while it went away. That was me though. Walt
Guest guest
Jen, It's more than likely that it's just an internal hemmoroid that's been caused by the constipation, or it could be something else. Either way, this should be reported to your doctor ASAP. You need some help with the constipation, if that's what it is, so that your condition doesn't worsen. A good stool softener like Senecot or Colace (OTC), or even some Miralax (script only) would alleviate this problem, but your physician needs to be aware of this and should be the one who determines what you need to do. If you haven't had a bowel movement since your procedure, you need to get motility as soon as possible. Our meds often can cause this constipation, but if they do, a good physician will prescribe something to help with motility before this becomes a continuing problem. Continual constipation can cause the development of internal hemmoroids which can become a problem if left untreated. If the blood is bright red, it's USUALLY attributable to a hemmoroid, but as I said, it could be something else caused by the procedure. if it's darker in color it means it's coming from further up the intestinal tract, and that could be serious. In light of the fact that you just have had a procedure done, any abnormalty like this needs to be reported to your doctor without delay. Hopefully this will remedy itself on its own, or with your physician's attention and treatment, right away. But do not let this continue untreated. Please let us know how it goes. Guest guest
Hi Jen, Im sorry they were not able to stent you during the ercp. Did any good come out of it? I hope so, at the very lease they got a good look at your panc I hope. Any and ALL rectal bleeding should be report to your doc ASAP. that is one area the should never bleed and should be checked immediately. It is probably an internal hemmorrhoid. They are not painful but can pop and leave the toilet bowell bright red, or can bleed when straining. Generally they will go away on their own when you use a good stool softener or laxataive. Many of us on here wouldn't be caught dead without ours...lol. I use colace at night and take Miralax in the morning. I am not on as many narcs so I dont need it as much. Narcs are long know to dry out your stool, so lots of water too. Again I am only guessing about the hemmorrhoid, you MUST call your doc. Please let me know what results or decisions they make after reviewing your findings. I hope your feeling better. Warmly, > Hello to all. Guest guest
I've had a few times when have had blood appear after a bowel movement. It has all but for one time been bright red blood, and I was told that it is the dark blackish gravelly looking blood that doesn't bode well for a person. Never was it after an ERCP of which I have had about 16, twice after two major surgeries, and a few times from hemorroids.
