Guest guest
I have some questions for you all......have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with the pain (I so far have not -- why is that?) and do you feel progressively worse throughout the course of the day? I sure seem to, in fact, I wasn't even able to make it to a 4:30 GI doc app't. yesterday because I was too sick to drive. They've scheduled me in for 4:45 today and I sure as he** need to get to that one so I can find out what more we can do or at least what the doc's got up his sleeve in the way of diagnostic procedures. If I don't get into work this week (was out all last week) I will have NO paycheck next Friday and I'm totally stressing about that.. I'm curious how it progresses on a daily basis for others. Please let me ok?? Just wondering if others have a " pattern " of sorts. thanks in advance
Guest guest
Hi , I think we all get a little more tired as the day progresses but yes I do feel worse as the day goes by. I have taken rests miday and that helps, but since I am getting better I am trying not to so that I can sleep a decent nights rest. I used to often wake with pain, several times a night. Turn a way and jabbbb it got me. I am feeling better and thanking the Heavenly Father for that and slept a complete night last night. 1030pm until 9am without waking, did take a little bendryl so I guess thats cheating. But that is the first time I slept straight through in I dont know how long. I will probably always be a bit weaker, I will probably never have my same zest, but thats ok, I was way too zesty anyway. Calming down would do me some good. The docs have me on Ativan so I stay clam during my recovery, I get very hyper. Dont feel bad if you have to slow things down a bit in the afternoons, thats normal. My panc is always a crankier by that time of day, mid afternoon, made it hard to eat dinner some times too. My panc does not like coffee either, thats a tough one to loose. I'm sipping a watered down brew now. Oh well, we must make our consolations. Warmly > I have some questions for you all......have you ever woken up in the > middle of the night with the pain (I so far have not -- why is > that?) and do you feel progressively worse throughout the course of > the day? Guest guest
Thanks and best wishes to you for a speedy recovery!! I was just curious as to whether or not others experienced this sort of thing. The pattern with me is I have never (yet) awakened in the night with the pain but I'm on some pretty heavy doses of sleeping meds. I've gone to sleep at night with the pain, but have never woken up with it. In the morning I usually wake up with mild pain and nausea, but it gets progressively worse as the day goes on whether I eat or not. Yesterday didn't eat all day and still had the same pattern. I've got to get into my GI doc today at 4:45 and I'm just dreading it because by that time of day yesterday I was in agony and had to call to cancel. Pretty sad when you're too sick to go see a doctor!! But, I want to find out today where we are going to proceed from here......so fingers crossed that I'll be well enough to actually get to the appointment. They said they'd call if they get a cancellation so I'm really hoping they do, as it would be much easier on me than that rocky road that usually starts between 1:00 and 2:00 every day..... thanks again and hugs > > I have some questions for you all......have you ever woken up in > the > > middle of the night with the pain (I so far have not -- why is > > that?) and do you feel progressively worse throughout the course > of > > the day? Guest guest
, You said so far you had not woken in pain in the middle of the night, or has this just happened? I didn't quite understand. To answer your question, yes, I have woken in the middle of the night and then had the pain continue and worsen throughout the course of the day. This is a pattern that used to happen to me all the time before my pancreas burned out. I, and others, call that a flareup, where the pain continues for several days, yet eventually subsides before it goes into a full acute pancreatitis attack. That's the chronic part of the disease. When this happened, I would stop eating and only take liquid nourishment, trying to " rest " the inflamed pancreas, until the pains subsided. I would drink tea, clear juices and plenty of water - the water is very important to keep the pancreas well hydrated. Most often during an episode we find that we become very dehydrated, if we don't consume lots and lots of water. Sometimes this would only last a day or two, other times it would go on for as long as a week. In my case, after a year, the pain eventually became a daily occurance, requiring me to be on 24 hour pain medication. My pattern of progression to pancreas burnout was much faster than most people's, so please don't expect that the same would happen to you that quickly. I am only trying to explain how the pattern progresses for some people, and what to do when the pains linger. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
, I have occasionally woken up in the middle of the night with major pain, but not often. Plus, I usually wake up every 4 hours anyways and I don't know why. I can even take sleeping pills and I will STILL wake up every 4 hours. This has been going on for a couple of years now, so I'm sort of used to it. And yes, I do seem to get worse in the evenings. For about a year while I was still working, I wasn't even able to eat dinner things had gotten so bad, so I was drinking one or two ensure in the middle of the night to compensate for the missed meal (though I did and still do have bad days where I am hardly able to eat anything all and usually stick to either fluids or baby food (the fruit and cereal ones only - the other stuff is so bad tasting no wonder babies spit the stuff out alot, lol). Luckily, things have eased up some now that I'm not working anymore (no more stress to make it into work and stay awake and stuggle through the day on minimal to no pain meds). No matter what, bad day or good day, my pain seems to be worst at night and real early mornings. In fact, when I've had most of my acute attacks that landed me in the hospital, it was usually late nigth (around 11pm or so,) or real early morning (5 to 6 am) when they started and I'd end up in the emergency rooms because the doctor's office wasn't opened. Guest guest
Thanks Heidi...I was just trying to see if others had a similar pattern. I have not (yet) woken in the night with pain but then again, like I said, I take some pretty heavy duty sleep meds because of my insomnia problems so who knows? The pattern mine is taking lately is that the pain is pretty much there all the time but on different levels on " the scale. " This week so far, I've had 2 days where the pain has suddenly intensified tremendously along with nausea. This happened yesterday and is why I didn't go to my dr appt. They can squeeze me in at 2:45 today though, so I'm hoping that it doesn't get too severe before then like it did yesterday. I haven't eaten much today and so far pain today is probably a 2 compared to yesterday's 10 although I do have some moments of nausea still today. So, if I understand correctly.....sometimes the pain would subside totally right before going into a full blown acute attack?? Once again, the doc hasn't made any kind of firm diagnosis yet either. My enzyme levels haven't gone up since the first time this happened right before the GB surgery. But he must be suspecting something otherwise I don't think he would have put me on the enzymes and the anti-spasmodic. Just to get a diagnosis at this point would relieve some of my anxiety anyway at this rate. Does everyone differ in where they actually FEEL the pain? I'm curious about that too....mine is right behind and in between my rib cage. Some of these doctors at first were trying to tell me I had costochondritis but were puzzled because with that your actual rib cage is extremely tender even to touch and mine wasn't at all. Anyway, thanks for the input > , > > You said so far you had not woken in pain in the middle of the night, or has > this just happened? Guest guest
Thanks Kimber...I just sent a loooong " diatribe " in response to Heidi's message. Well, I'm off to the GI doc's in about 15 mins or so but the panc is acting up again a bit. Another question for you all: does this make you feel completely exhausted and weak at all? I imagine it does but it definitely does to me. I've been taking naps during the day of late and I'm the type that usually can't sleep at all. thanks Kimber!! > , > I have occasionally woken up in the middle of the night with major pain, > but not often. Guest guest
Hi I have had pain in the middle of night 3 times. Without warning or special reason. Normaly I take Ketogan tablet 5 mg as soon as I fell just a little pain. I rest totaly for 5 hours and in this way I am on my feet again. Otherwise I can be in pain for up to one hour because my stomach will not absorbe the tablet proberly and I have to continue with Ketogan for up to 24 hours. In most cases I can can solve this problem taking Ketogan supp., but when the pain is to strong I also get diarrhoea. Pain at night is always strong from the first moment. I often dream I am in pain and wake up bading in cold sweat. All 3 times I have first thought it is just a dream, but no. The first 2 times I had to be admitted to hospital to avoid shock. I now use Temgesic 0,2 mg to be placed under the toungue. That solves my problem getting fast painrelieve. Now I take Temgesic in stead of Ketogan. Works faster and easyer. I have problems falling asleep but since I am afraid falling asleep when I am not sure the attack is over it does not matter so much. Sometimes I set the alarmclock the wake me up 4 hours after the last tablet. Then I in time will know, if I have to take more tablets or the attack is over. By the way I also dream that I forget not to drink beer. I wake up bading in cold sweat, hearing famely and friends shouting at each other who to blame. They never blame me! Guest guest
Thanks for you reply Jeppe. I guess I'm just trying to determine how the pain pattern is in other people. If there is a pattern at all or if it just hits out of nowhere or what. Mine takes on a pattern of sorts......gets progressively worse starting about noon time and is in peak by about 4-8 pm or so. thanks again for your response and wishing you well > > I have some questions for you all......have you ever woken up in > the > > middle of the night with the pain (I so far have not -- why is > > that?) and do you feel progressively worse throughout the course > of > > the day? Guest guest
, I'm so sorry I didnt' get this email until today because I was gone on vacation since May 25 and just started to download my email yesterday in the afternoon and didn't get much of a chance to even look at it until today. I also had a gotten a cold that reared it's head on this last Tuesday (June1st) when I got home from my vacation and I was so under the weather with it I didn't even hook my computer up until yesterday. So I've now got a lot of email to catch up on. How did your GI appt. go? And yes, the problems with waking up in the middle of the night does make me tired and so I end up taking naps through out the day and totally ruins my sleep pattern. The more often I wake up in the night, the worse I feel the next day. I've sort of gotten used to waking up every four hours, but if I wake up in smaller intervals than that is when I get tired now, since this has been going on so long. Also, part of my problem was sleep apnea (stop breathing in the middle of the night) and have been getting better quality sleep now that I've got a CPAP machine to help me continuing breathing while I'm sleeeping.
