Guest guest
I'd love to find some legal ground turkey to use. Both Jennie-O and Shady Brook Farms brands say they also have natural flavors. I emailed the two companies, and Jennie-O says in the frozen package, the natural flavor is pepper; Shady Brook Farms says theirs is rosemary extract. On the loop recently, it was mentioned that " natural flavors " are illegal. Would these two items still be considered illegal? No, I have not pursued getting this in writing on company letterhead. But I would like to know if these items would be OK to use. Thanks! Guest guest
So ground meats aren't legal? Do they put additives in those packages of ground meats/turkey etc? Applegate Farms makes turkey burgers & all the ingredients say are " organic turkey " . Would those be okay? Thanks, Michele > > I'd love to find some legal ground turkey to use. Guest guest
Well, I do know that the Shady Brook Farms turkey isn't legal. I remember looking at it when I first started scd. The only ground meat that we buy in the grocery store has been the meat that is the grocery store brand. Have you look at just you local grocery store ground beef or turkey? Of course, you can also buy it from a farm if you'd like to go that route. Depending on where you live, it may not be any more expensive to buy it that way. You can check www.eatwild.com to see if there are farms in your area. Many farms also will ship an order directly to you. We actually just started trying this route. We ordered beef from a farm in our state, and it arrived mid week. It is more expensive than WalMart, Sam's, Cosco, ect. It is no more expensive than our local chain grocery stores though. It is grass fed, completely organic beef. So like I said, you can check the Eat Wild site to see if there's a farm that you want to go through. Otherwise, you should check you local grocery store brand. Meleah Re: legal ground turkey > So ground meats aren't legal? Guest guest
I agree that if the only ingredient is " organic turkey " , then it is fine. On the other ground turkey someone was talking about, if they list " natural flavors " as an ingredient... all kinds of things *can* be hidden under that heading without being declared.... doesn't mean they ARE, just that they CAN be. If the only ingredient they put in is " pepper " , then why don't they just say " pepper " , instead of hiding it under the " natural flavors " label? That bugs me.
