Guest guest
Hi I am new to this support group. I was diagnosed with Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth in Feb. 2006 with the 3 hour Hydrogen Breath Test. I have both C and D, but mostly pain and bloating in my stomach. I have been on Neomycin 3 times since Feb., each time getting better, but then my symptoms returning after about 2 weeks being off the antibiotic. Anyway to make a long story short, I am looking to start SCDiet and have ordered the book, along with yogurt maker and yogurt cheese maker, almond flour, and cookbooks. Since I haven't yet read the book, I am going off what I have learned on the website. I have a few questions, and perhaps these will be answered in the book, but in the meantime I was hoping this group could be of some help. 1.) I made the chicken broth...when I added the carrot puree back in my soup turned orange..is this what it is suppose to look like? Also what do you do with all the boil chicken? What type of recipes do you use it in? 2.) Do I have to dilute my orange juice also for the diet intro and long term for both grape and orange juice? 3.) I am looking to make my own balsamic vinegar, recipe says to use grape wine. I looked in grocery store and found this on bottom shelf of wine, but doesn't show ingredients...any suggestions as to which one I should use, or what you use for salad dressing during this diet? 4.) I am afraid that I won't like the homemade yogurt? What kinds of things do you do to make it taste better in it's natural state? 5.) Intro diet says to make own jello. I purchased the gelatin and have the grape juice. How do I make this? Are there any other juices I can use to make homemade jello? I think that is all for now. TIA, Diane
Guest guest
I can answer a couple of the questions for you. Follow the instructions of the back of your box of gelatin for making Knox blocks or whatever type of gelatin recipe they have. Don't use straight juice with the gelatin. Use at least half and half water. It did take a little while for our family to get used to the plain scd yogurt, but now we can eat it straight. It makes a great yogurt smoothie. I just blend it up with a banana. In the beginning, I would add just a small amount of honey, but now I don't even do that. You can blend it with any number of cooked fruits and/or vegies as well...when you are starting yogurt, but can't yet eat the raw fruits and vegies(except avocado and banana). I hope this helps. Guest guest
<<I found a fruit strip at Target that I love and helps my sweet cravings. I assume it is SCD legal? It is by Archer Farms ( Targets own name brand ) ...ingredients are Organic Apples, Organic Apricots ( or Raspberries) and Organic Lemon Juice. I love them and great snack for me.>> NO.... this is not legal. Sorry! You cannot know exactly how these are made and processed. They're illegal for the same reason commercial applesauce is illegal... even if the label says " only apples " . Patti
Guest guest
Diane, If you want to get started while you wait for the book the best place to go is www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info. I believe its under " Getting Started " . You need to avoid a lot of fruit right now and anything you decide to have in the way of fruit or veggies need to be peeled, seeded and cooked. Its easier on the gut that way. The intro diet is only done for a max of 5 days then you add food really slowly. Such as a 1/4 of very ripe banana, applesauce, steamed green beans--things that are easy to digest. The applesauce should be homemade of course. Charlene UC 8 years SCD almost 6 years Thanks Patti for all your help. I ordered the books through Amazon.com, but I don't understand why they take so long to ship them when they are in stock. I ordered the yogurt cheese maker from them 3 days later and received that today, but all my books say not shipping until end of next week. I am in a lot of pain and have a lot of bloating, so that is my only reason for wanting to get started now versus later. I plan on reading the book several times. I will learn as I go... So far I love the soup, and I have the appliances and ability to make my own fruit strips, so will look in to that. Can't be too hard, as I recall getting something with my dehydrater that specifically does this, and I assume the use of my vitamixer will make this an easy accomplishment. Again thanks for your help. Diane > Diane, > > I can't remember if it was you that has not read the book yet? It's > really essential that you do. Guest guest
Thanks Charlene, In looking at my amazon order again, I decided to write them and see what the hold up was, and come to find out, they weren't going to deliver it for 4-6 weeks, so I cancelled with them and reordered the book through and Noble. It should ship in 3 days, so I will have it by next week. I have made the soup and actually have been enjoying it this week. I got my yogurt maker and yogort cheese maker yesterday, and the ingredients to make the yogort so going to make that tonight. One question, when I use Milk and Half and Half, what is the ratio of each? I have 1 pint of organic half and half and a 2 quart 100% Organic Whole Milk. Thnanks. And I know have the ingredients to make the jello. So I have frozen some of the soup, so I will have it ready to go when I start this diet 100%. This way when I am done reading the book, I'll be ready to get started with 100 % commitment. I'll check out the getting started page on the website that you recommend. Is there anyone else out there that deals mostly with pain? I don't have D or C right now, so that is not my problem, just mostly pain and bloating, especially in the morning when I wake up. Sometimes when I eat, it actually makes me feel better. That doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, thanks for all your help. I think I am on my way!
