I think I would go with my CF doctor's opinion! I do not have CF, my daughter

does, but.......at 20 years old I had to have my gallbladder removed. I was

in more pain than giving birth to my children! It is obviously causing her

problems, why not remove it?

I agree with the comment that she needs the food that you are having to keep

from her. I have been able to eat anything I want since my gallbladder was

removed 14 years ago!

Good luck,

Lorenzen, mom of 16 wcf

I posted about two weeks ago in reference to my 6 wcf. She had been having

lots of abdomen pain mainly after eating and at night and last I posted they

were thinking it could be ulcerative colitis. Last week she was put back in the

hospital and a ultrasound was done and she has Gallstone's. A surgeon was called

in and decided that the gallbladder does not need to be taken out because it is

not inflamed and the CF Doctor is saying that it does need to be taken out. She

is currently on a low fat diet, and she is not having no pain, but if we eat

anything with fat like whole milk, ice-cream, spaghetti, her normal diet, she

has pain. What experience have you all have on gallbladder and problems?

Tracey,

Hi I have gallbladder problems but I can't imagine how I would keep weight on

if she had a problem with hers. I have found that a while after I was

dx'd with gallbladder problems I was able to add fatty foods back into my diet

but I can tell when I have over done it with them. Is the surgeon aware of the

nutritional/malabsorbtion issues with CF? She needs those fatty foods! I hope

that she is feeling better soon.

I must say that I have not regretted the loss of the following: tonsils and

adenoids, appendix, uterus and THE GALL BLADDER! Come to think of it, I do

not miss those polyps either--and thank heavens the removal of all these does

not require a transplant!

Love to all at crataegus,

Tracey,

I am sorry to hear about 's gall stones. It will hard for you

to get enough calories in her, if she has pain when ever she eats

fat. I wish that I had some good advise for you, but I don't know

anything about gall stones. Do they pass, like kidney stones?

Gallstones, like kidney stones, typically go hand in hand with

magnesium deficiency.

Sorry... You knew I was going to say that, didn't you?

I can't help it... the research speaks for itself.

Thanks to everyone on your info, it has helped me so much.

I spoke back to 's CF doctor Monday afternoon. He said the Gallbladder does

indeed need to come out weather it is inflamed or not that it has stones in it

and that will cause her more problems in the future. But it seems that the

pediatric surgeon at the children's hospital does not want to take it out

because it is not inflamed and see's no need in it. So, The CF nurse is calling

the pediatric surgeon's nurse today to talk it over and she will be calling me.

Until then we are struggling to try and gain any weight or at least maintain the

weight, is six years old and only 36 pounds. She has always had problems

in gaining weight we can maintain the weight but gaining is hard she does grow

taller on each clinic visit but she is still just barley on the chart height and

weight wise. She had meconium lilius when she was born(six weeks early), she

lost about two inches of her small intestine and had a colostomy for over a

month them reversed it a week after her due date. three months after her birth

we were able to bring her home. she had liver problems when she came home from

hospital because of the hiperal(iv nutrition) she was on the three months she

was put on actigal to lower her billirubin numbers and to help the liver. Her

liver levels went back to normal after about two months being at home and since

then all has been well. Until this year in march she had her first case of

pneumonia.

Thanks again for listening to me and for your info.

May God Bless!!!!!!!!

n,

How *awfully nice* of your surgeon to recommend magnesium AFTER the

fact. Did you ask him which new toy of his you funded by him removing

your gall bladder -- summer beach house, ski cabin, second Mercedes,

his kids' Ivy League college tuition?

Tracey,

Before surgery, I'd get a third opinion from a pediatric GI

specialist, NOT a CF specialist, and I'd start her on magnesium and

taurine asap.
