RE: Down time between helmets???

First - about a week ago I put up a post asking about a second band

and mentioned that my son's Photostudy from CT didn't show very

impressive results yet (although we DID see progress in six weeks).

did me the most incredible favor by reformatting the pics and

posting them in the " L " folder under Lucas (the pics of " Luke " in the

Band decorated like a Steelers helmet are mine also). So they're up

if anyone would like to give me their brutally honest opinion about

them!!! ;-)

Second - I just took him to CT this morning and they're still waiting

on a script from his pediatrician to submit to our insurance for

preauthorization before we can proceed with DSI for DOC #2 (I have no

idea why they didn't get it yet b/c I spoke with the ped about it

last week and not only is she super supportive, she's also VERY on

the ball with this kind of thing... I have to wonder if she faxed

the script and it was just lost in the shuffle). Anyway, Luke grew

4cm in the last week - talk about a 6 month growth spurt! - and he

grew out of his current DOC Band. So now we're bandless, and he has

yet to be scanned for band #2... It looks like it might be 2 weeks

at least before we can get the second band.

Has anybody else had this issue where you have " down-time " between

Helmet #1 and #2??? What has your experience been? I suppose I'm

still just concerned about regression given that Luke has yet to be

ambitious enough to roll onto his belly!

Thanks everyone - and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Hi Jess--

Sorry for the delay, I finally took a moment to look at the Lucas

photos. What a cutie!! So, since you wanted input, I would say that I

absoulutely see improvement after the first band. I also absolutely

see why you decided on the 2nd, I think that you made the right

decision. With that much improvement with the first, it seems you

would get further improvement with the second.

Regarding the down time in between, I don't have personal experience,

but can try to put myself in your shoes. I think that I would go back

to my OCD repo mode during the break time. I have posted some of my

strategies before. Merrick had plagio on the back right, so we just

did everything we could to keep him off of that spot. We used a sleep

positioner at night and had rolled up towels and blankets around the

house during the day, so that if he was on his back we could prop him

off of that spot. We also used the bumbo chair to keep him off of his

head. At some point from CT I was told that the potential regression

rate is only 1%, which seems pretty low to me, so you probably can

let some of the worry go but yet do some things to ensure that you

don't even get that rate of regression.

Keep us posted on how it goes with band #2!
