Guest guest
Hi there and welcome. My daughter got her first DOC band she was 9.5 months old. She had severe brachy and mild plagio. She graduated 7 months later and both her plagio and brachy improved significantly. She now has a round head and her asymmetry is barely visible. She wore her bands 23h/day and never seemed to complain much about them. What kind of band is your baby wearing? Is he getting red spots? What seems to be bothering besides having it on his head? Our Dr said not to worry about it when we first noticed it around 4-5 months. I eventually convinced him to get us to a specialist to look at getting him a helmet. Unfortunately through a series of miscommunications, we didn't get an appt then the helmet until about a week ago. My son is obviously not liking this so we're having trouble getting him to wear it for long periods of time. Maybe around 1-2 hours a day and now striving for 4-5+. My question is does anyone think this will benefit him? It's fairly late in the game to be wearing the helmet plus the trouble we're having with getting him to adjust to it. One thing the specialist mentioned was that there really isn't any hard proof of how long you need to wear the helmet to have it be effective. They simply suggest 18-21 hours because it provides the best chance. Thanks in advance to everyone who responds.
Guest guest
Your baby is not too old to get correction from a band. Babies are treated up to and beyond 18 mo... so 9 mo. is great! Remember that consistency is KEY to getting your baby to wear and get used to the band. Depending on what band you have some have a "break-in" period and other start wearing 23hrs from the start. Did your ortho give you any instructions for this? Our baby wore it a few hours on and then an hour off building up to the 23hours at the end of the week. By day 7 she was more comfy with the band on because that was the "norm" for her. In the middle of the night she got cranky and so we brought her into bed with us to nurse and she was happy. I'm not saying it wasn;t hard sometimes... but remembering that if I was consistent she would get used to the band helped. HTH!
