Guest guest
Hi everyone, Zach lost a pound this week. I have noticed that when he is on antibiotics for his ear infections he gains weight and as soon as he is off the meds he looses the weight. Does this make any sense? Guest guest
I don't know about Zach, but when I am on antibiotics that are to be taken with food, it makes my stomach always feel like I am hungry. Maybe he gets more fluids when he is ill so therefore he may be putting on more pounds from the fluids. Guest guest
Sara, A good friend of mine has an 8-year old daughter with CF (diagnosed at 7 months for failure to thrive). Her daughter has been on IV antibiotics about seven times, I think. Each time she's on IV's, her bowel movements improve to the point they need to cut back enzymes, sometimes not giving at all (she generally takes 2-3 Ultrase per meal, I believe, depending upon the meal). Once she goes off IVs, bowel movements return to pre-treatment norm. Weird, isn't it? You'd think they'd get worse. But, in Zach's case, once he's on antibiotics, then his body isn't likely burning so much fuel fighting the inflammation and infection, so he gains weight. Guest guest
Some of us (and we are a very rare exception) actually get constipated on antibiotics. My dad and myself are this way. Perhaps your children are too. Only with cf it doesn't show as constipation, but rather a firm bowel movement since they were so loose to begin with.
