low fat and enzymes

Dear Heidi, and Sue, and all:

Yes, you're right that we each have to try and see what works. I'd been

sticking to the 20 - 30 grams of fat per day, eating 5 -6 small

meals and taking 2 -3 enzyme capsules (Pancrease) when I eat. I complained to

my naturopathic doctor about losing my hair in

increasing amounts and extremely dry skin. He recommended that I try more fat

and take more enzymes, so I did.

Didn't work. My body just cannot handle more than the 20 - 30 grams of fat a

day. Upping the enzymes didn't seem to help the

pain/pressure and horrible bloating after eating. One thing I learned from the

group - can't remember who said it - was to try taking

one enzyme before eating, and the other one or two afterwads. I had been told

to let the pancreas do what it can to produce the

necessary enzymes on its own and use the Pancrease as a supplement to what my

pancreas will produce. But I found that taking one

capsule at the beginning of a meal really made a difference.

Still, the low fat diet seems to be a necessity for me. I tried fish oil

capsules and they caused pain. However, I've learned that

sometimes I can try something later that caused problems before and it's ok, so

perhaps I should again try fish oil, or flaxseed oil?

Thank you to everybody for sharing your experiences and recommendations. What a

wonderful resource PAI - and you! - are to me.

Aloha,

Chris
