Guest guest
My children are picky & my ASD son is picky with texture issues. They won't eat eggs, or soup. Burgers are okay & plain steamed veggies, but is there anything else I can offer them for those 2 loooooong days? Especially for breakfast. Thx, Michele
Guest guest
Michele, I fed my two boys sneaky veggie pancakes (recipe found at pecanbread.com) I used carrot as the veggie so it would be legal on the starter diet. They have textural issues as well, but love these pancakes because they are soft and sweet. We cook them in Ghee which is a clarified butter that is casien free. I had to puree the soup (chicken, carrots, and broth) for my boys to eat it. They did not really like it, but still ate it because they were hungry. One of my boys loves the jello. So, I would give him one bite of soup and then tell him he could eat one square of jello. Then alternate bite of soup and bite of jello. That got him through the soup. I have to puree their hamburger meat to make it a soft texture. They seem to like it if I make it like a soufle with four eggs to one cup of hamburger and then baked in the oven at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Michele, Have you read through the www.pecanbread.com website? There are two sections under " Food Preparation " that you need to read.... links are " Transitioning a Child to the SCD " and " ASD Intro Diet " . Both of these should be quite helpful. Then, also look under " Overcoming Difficulties " and go to the " Picky Eaters " section.... great tips there, as well. Guest guest
I looked through that; we don't use behavioral techniques & my son is pretty low functioning, so the " typical " ways of dealing with getting kids to eat doesn't work with him. He basically eats if he likes it, starves & makes life miserable for everyone if he doesn't ( & he's no baby at almost 12yrs old). So I want to make every effort to have foods he likes & will eat. I'll look it over again; might be helpful for the other two... Thx, Michele > > Michele, > > Have you read through the www.pecanbread.com website? Guest guest
Mainly, I was thinking that there is a list there, in the " ASD Intro " section, of all kinds of alternative versions the intro foods for kids.
