Guest guest
Hello , I don't know the doctor you mention. Perhaps your whole message was meant for someone else? Anyway, since you mention enzymes as well, I'll put in my oar!!! I was diagnosed last year after a CT scan showed extensive calcifications throughout the pancreas as well as atrophy. The gastroenterologist's view, especially given my medical history, was that there was very little, if any, pancreatic exocrine function (digestion) going on. To replace the enzymes, he prescribed Creon, 3 x 10,000 with each meal but with freedom to take more if I needed it. At the same time he referred me to a pancreatic specialist/surgeon in the same hospital. This man said I needed higher doses and changed me to Creon 40,000, up to 3 per meal as I felt I needed. I take according to the amount of food in my meal, the fat and protein content etc. I find it excellent. The frequency and severity of my pains has reduced considerably and the length of time an attack lasts has also reduced remarkably. I take nothing for granted with this disease; I have suffered too much with it over the years. I know things can change overnight. However, I am just grateful to have had a calmer few months than I had enjoyed for some time. I still have very bad days when the pain is awful but so far I've had more stamina to deal with it because of the pain-free time in between. Last year I had got to the stage where I felt I simply couldn't face another day of terrible pain. I don't know what will happen. After 53 years of hereditary pancreatitis symptoms (different at different times in my life but always that dreadful epigastric pain) I face all sorts of risks, as the docs have explained, but I take one day at a time and thank God for each one. With very good wishes to you, , and to all on this excellent site, Fliss
