Hi Everyone.

I have been at the hospital for the last four days caring for my

Mother-in-law who was near death(She has made a huge turnaround and

seems to be improving thanks to some new antibiotics and lots of

prayer). She was on a floor where the nurses care for patients who

are in really bad condition. I was talking with a nurse about my MGB

and she was amazed by what I was telling her. She could not believe

that I had only spent one night in the hospital and had only had a 32

minute surgery. She told me that they do a lot of Gastric Bypass

operations there, but that most people stayed six or seven days with

constant supervision. She said that she had cared for several

patients who had not lived as a result of complications of WLS

surgery. As a result of her experience with those patients, she had

advised her mother against having the surgery. After hearing about my

surgery and my 47 pound weight loss in less than two months, she

wrote down Dr. R's website address and name so that she could tell

her mother(who happens to lives about an hour from Durham even though

the daughter that I was talking to was in Pensacola Florida)about Dr.

R's surgery. She was amazed to hear about this surgery. On a

different note, I wish that my Mother-in-law had been able to be

under the care of a doctor as caring and competent as Dr. R. It

seemed to me that because she had a condition that will eventually

take her life, the Dr.'s treated her as a terminal patient rather

than a surgical patient. As a result, she may lose her life because

of complications that could have been prevented by getting her out of

bed after surgery rather than letting her lay in her hospital bed for

two weeks on heavy pain medications. It is hard to get up and about

after any surgery, but if you have a Dr. that pushes you to get up

and around like Dr. R does, you will be much better off!
