Guest guest
my son has cold and cough and now my husband and i do but we decided to start the intro menu today. we have been gearing up for the last 2 wks by weening my son off refined sugar and cow's milk. we had to stronghold his arms and legs down and shove the food in then i had to hold his hand and reassure him that it would be ok so he wouldn't spit it out or gag. he took a few tiny bites of the farmer's cheese laced with drop of honey, a few tiny gelatin squares, raisins, ground burger with hard boiled egg pureed and about 2oz of warm chicken/carrot soup. we had to give him a few raisins to bribe him or distract him. we were ecstatic that it was his 1st warm real meal he has ever eaten. the poor little guy still went to bed hungry but i feel hopeful that he will come to accept this new way of eating soon. my husband is taking tomorrow off work so we can continue to forcefeed him. his stools were solid today and i don't ever remember that. he is already improving: more eye contact, less stimming behaviors, attempting more to talk, etc. i am concerned that his nystatin has 50% sucrose in it. can i finish off the pint and then have the pharmacist add fructose or dextrose on the next order. i believe we have a 45 day supply in the pint. insurance denied Speech therapy but may approve occupational therapy, no guarantee. they sd speech loss has to be from injury, stroke or congenital anomoly (well i would think autism is 2 of those things:genetics and injury from vaccines/antiobiotics or environmental toxins). i am not fiting it because the state pays for 2 days per wk of ST. i am sick of insur cos. Guest guest
As long as you are using the Nystatin with sugar in it, he will not really be 100% on the diet. Also, raisins are a very advanced food.... not for beginners, and certainly not allowed on intro. So... while I'm sure that what he's eating right now is much better than before, he is NOT on the SCD intro diet if he's eating raisins and taking the Nystatin you currently have. You can go ahead and finish that supply of Nystatin if you want to (I understand it's expensive), but he will not be *truly* on SCD until you either stop using it altogether, or get a sugar and starch-free version. Guest guest
Your insurance may require that same stipulation for ot. Ours did for speech, occupational, and physical therapies. Here's how we got around it. We just had our dr. write a letter to the insurance company that our son needed x amount of x therapy per week for recovery. It worked. Guest guest
I would think that using " failure to thrive " as a reason for the nutritionist referal would be sufficient. The weight loss and all should be reason enough to cover it. Our dr. just wrote a letter saying that our son needed 2 hrs. of ot and 2 hrs. of speech each week as restorative therapy. She didn't have to give any specifics in the letter, and Etna covered it. You could always get a general letter like that just using the words " restorative therapy " and fax that over. Then, you can have the clinic where you want to do therapy call to check on whether the insurance has decided to cover it. Guest guest
Hi guys, When we had to use Nystatin we got the stuff made plane. Nothing but the medicine with no starch or ilegals in it. With nothing in it...just the medicine. Most compounding pharmacies will do this. At home I adda touch of honey and apple sauce to the dose and it worked fine. I do not trust fructose or dextrose becasue most of it is derived from corn and is not truly a monosacharide, therefore not being legal on the SCDiet and will feed the bad gut flora. Hope this helps, Antoinette mom to KIKI-2 (ASD, CD and more) SCD 2/
