Guest guest
, At only three weeks in, I am confident things are going pretty well for your two younger ones. My concern, and I'm sure fee the same way, is for your eldest. He seems to having such a rough time. How frustrating and worrisome for you. I don't know what to think about the bloating.... and why that is happening. Things are obviously very out of balance in his system. I'm not a doctor... and I certainly could be wrong, but I really suspect that he IS somewhat constipated.... or at least maybe there is some stool in there that is sort of impacted or blocking him up. Then, some of the stool is making it's way around that and coming out very thin... so sort of giving you the illusion that he's NOT constipated. This is just my " gut feeling " , so to speak..... a guess at best! What do you think? Does that ring true at all? I think it could account for how he's feeling, the bloating and such.... and the gagging and behavior stuff. He probably just feels crummy. Then, I think it's possible that this is coupled with some die-off, which would be VERY common still, at this point in the beginning. First thing I think I would do, if this were my child, is make up some of the SCD electrolyte solution. I've heard reports recently that this alleviates constipation.... and I would think we need to be a *little* concerned about hydration for him right now, anyway. Here's the recipe: 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey 1/4 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp.baking soda Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours, and then a new batch should be made. I would have him drink small amounts of this... frequently. Just a few swallows at a time. Next, although I don't think you should take him all the way back to the intro diet, I would make up a batch of the chicken soup.... make it from a whole chicken carcass.... so you have all the bones in there. I would cook this for quite a long time... 4-6 hrs? The minerals in the bones make the broth VERY healing. You could also do a soup broth with beef soup bones, too... nice big marrow bones. I would be sure to add salt to the broth. Again, I'd try to have him sip some of this... small amounts at a time.... frequently throughout the day. I'd also recommend more frequent meals... but smaller amounts. I know he must be very hungry, though. I know you said he didn't do well on the applesauce.... not sure exactly why, but I know for some people, applesauce (and bananas) can tend to be somewhat " binding " (tending to firm up the stool). If I'm right that he's got some stool backed up in there, then avoiding applesauce right now would be best anyway.... though there might be some other reason why it's not agreeing with him, too. Do you think that the throat clearing could be due to a bit of acid reflux? If so, I'm thinking that the electrolyte solution.... and the bone broth.... could really help, if he takes them in small sips. The foods you're now using sound like really good choices. Can you add some broth to his squash.... just blend it in as you would with mashed potatoes ? Which probiotic is he taking? Patti Day #20 -serious bloating while eating Hi- we're at day 20 and my eldest son (7yr/asd) is really struggling, his stomach gets so hard and bloated after eating only a part of his meals that he can't eat enough. He has lost 2 -3 lbs. since we started and is at 40 lbs. now. Behavior has really deteriorated this past week. He can't keep it together, perhaps due to chronic hunger. He was eating all kinds of foods (squash, scrambled eggs, etc.) he never would have tried before scd. Now he is having lots of problems with texture, gagging. His stools were just beginning to look healthy. Now they are more frequent and coming out very thin (not runny). He was given major antibiotics this past January for H. pylori. I couldn't put him through that again, not so soon so have not re-tested. He did not seem to tolerate the applesauce (homemade). He is still forcefully clearing his throat, almost constantly yet has no nasal drip or runny nose. We're at stage one, with the addition of the following stage 2 foods: butternut squash, acorn squash, avocado. Our computer is doing strange things so I don't know if we'll have this support much longer. You are a great group of people and we pray for all on this list every night. We are asking for prayers. The school district has sent a wonderful home teacher for our son to help until he gets strong enough to return to school. He has just been so ill these past couple months that it was better for him to try and get stronger until after Thanksgiving and then we will try half days till after Christmas. But I'm losing hope if he loses weight. Everytime he gets sick he gets these awful mouth and throat sores and then he loses weight again. Yet he was losing weight before we started this. We've been to pediatric GI to tell about our concerns and trying scd. He offered to scope and we said no thanks. Told the doctor soy gave exzema and serious constipation and we were given a big bottle of Lactulose (laxative) and told to give him soy because it is good protein source and give laxative twice a day to counteract. We never gave it and scd has cleared up the constipation. Prayer and this diet are all we have to hang onto now. Our 4 yr old/nt daughter has lost a couple lbs and still has dark circles under eyes. Stools are very soft. 22 mos old/asd son still has mushy poops but the smell is much healthier and he has PUT ON 3 lbs and grown in height and is eating really well and sleeping well, too. All are getting probiotics and charcoal and epsom soaks. Thank you,
