Guest guest
Trudy, please know in my heart that I truly believe in this procedure for it saved my life also. I have lost over 200 pounds since starting the process in 98, but I still feel that with so many people paying versus insurance, you need to know that there are risks involved. When you really look at the statistics, this procedure has an excellent rate of success. Trust me, in no way is my surgery a failure. I am only trying to make preops realize that there is a risk, and that this is not an easy out for obesity as you may hear those that don't understand say. I had a man in radiology say to me this last time " I bet you are hating that you did this to yourself? " I looked at him and said " excuse me " ? Again he repeated the same comment to me. I explained to him that without this surgery in '98, I may have been dead by now from my morbid obesity or a CO-morbidity associated with it. No, I did not want a complication but that is what was dealt to me this time around. I have to deal with it. I explained to him the benefits of weight loss and the improvement in my health status prior to this incident. I explained to him that for the first time ever, I had a quality of life that I never had ever. I also explained to him that he lacked compassion with this comment and asked for a new nurse. While this upset him, very obvious from the look on his face, again I was hurt ... by the ignorance we as obese people feel from those that have never suffered a weight problem. Trudy, I do encourage you to research and know as much as you can. As I have said repeatedly, this surgery also saved my life. I thank God above that I had it done. Good luck in your decision and may God guide you as he feels is best. If you ever need to talk please feel free to email me.
