Guest guest
Take tonsils out or not? Hi all, I have a 2 1/2 year old, with CF and the doctors are talking about taking his tonsils out in February because they are very large and they think they are harbouring more infection than they are keeping out. Has anyone had the same thing happen, does it actually make any difference to the amount of chest infections they get. Let me know please. He has already had more operations than I can count so I dont want to put him through another one if its not going to make much difference, sometimes the docs can be a bit scalpel happy!! Thanks. - mum to 2 1/2 with CF ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
Hi there, Yes, that is the best thing for him at this time. The tonsils are only useful when they are able to continue to " catch " all thre germs/bugs . Once they are full.......they need to GO.. take care. Best wishes on the surgery for this sweet young guy Love & hugs, grandmomBEV Take tonsils out or not? Guest guest
, both my sons one with cf and one without both had tonsills and adnoids taken out when they were 1 and 3 and they both improved tremendously. The amount of infections nearly disappeared One is 19 the other 21 and they have not had a sore throat in all those years, and they both did not have to be on antibiotics for quite awhile afterwards, any infection in our cf kids bodies are not good, no matter where they appear so if I were you I would have the tonsills out, Your son will feel so much better. > >Reply-To: cfparents >To: cfparents >Subject: Take tonsils out or not? >Date: Sun, 14 Dec 2003 01:40:13 -0000 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >X-Originating-IP: 203.166.96.236 >X-Sender: steja5@... >Received: from n3.grp.scd.yahoo.com ([66.218.66.86]) by mc7-f20.hotmail.com >with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713); Sat, 13 Dec 2003 17:40:15 -0800 >Received: from [66.218.66.157] by n3.grp.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 14 Dec >2003 01:40:15 -0000 >Received: (qmail 97986 invoked from network); 14 Dec 2003 01:40:14 -0000 >Received: from unknown (66.218.66.167) by m17.grp.scd.yahoo.com with QMQP; >14 Dec 2003 01:40:14 -0000 >Received: from unknown (HELO n1.grp.scd.yahoo.com) (66.218.66.64) by >mta6.grp.scd.yahoo.com with SMTP; 14 Dec 2003 01:40:14 -0000 >Received: from [66.218.67.132] by n1.grp.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 14 Dec >2003 01:40:13 -0000 >X-Message-Info: JGTYoYF78jFFNVkq+Wla4PZ31oDchINf >X-eGroups-Return: >sentto-104900-53904-1071366015-clog1760=msn.com@... >X-Apparently-To: cfparents >Message-ID: <brgf1t+43jd (AT) eGroups (DOT) com> >User-Agent: eGroups-EW/0.82 >X-Mailer: Yahoo Groups Message Poster >X-eGroups-Remote-IP: 66.218.66.64 >X-Yahoo-Profile: steja5 >Mailing-List: list cfparents ; contact >cfparents-owner >Delivered-To: mailing list cfparents >Precedence: bulk >List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:cfparents-unsubscribe > >Return-Path: >sentto-104900-53904-1071366015-clog1760=msn.com@... >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 14 Dec 2003 01:40:15.0842 (UTC) >FILETIME=[393B2420:01C3C1E3] > >Hi all, > >I have a 2 1/2 year old, with CF and the doctors are talking >about taking his tonsils out in February because they are very large >and they think they are harbouring more infection than they are >keeping out. Guest guest
, I have a daugher who is now 7 with CF and she was having real problems with her tonsils and cold after cold. She had her tonsils out when she was 5. She has only been on antibiotics once since then. Which has been wonderful compared to the amount of times prior to her tonsils being removed. Also as a bonus her weight gained had a nice jump after her tonsils came out. I read somewhere that if the tonsils are affecting their breathing, it takes more calories for them to breathe and when the tonsils are removed the weight gain improves. Good Luck Hope all goes well.... Vicki mom to Micaela 7 wcf, Wyatt 5 wcf, Maggie 2 1/2 wcf Take tonsils out or not? Guest guest
Hi , My daughter had her tonsils out when she was 5, same reason, they were very enlarged and causing difficulty breathing especially at night. She had a little trouble after not wanting to eat or drink (not even ice cream, she doesn't like it) but she does like popsicles and slurpees so we did OK. No regrets. She is 19 now and can't even remember it I don't think. love, M Mom of Nick age 21 nocf and age 19 wcf
