Just because they have a problem doesn't mean everyone else around them will suffer. This is a habit they choose to do just like I choose not to. My girls did not choose to have CF!! Nor did they choose to have uncaring grandparents. But they have to deal with it!! I am tired of being nice about it and now I am going to let them know how I feel!! Guest guest
How crummy of your inlaws! They should be more understanding. As far as the smoking, I dont smoke because I am careless or dont love my son.I am not some freak always looking at the clock to see when i can have my next fix, nor am i carelessly exposing my son to smoke in his (our)home/enviroment.I AM, however, addicted to nicotine just like many other people.I have tried to quit more times than I care to remember, and i'm sure i'll continue to try until i finally succeed.I love my son just as much as other mothers love their children, and theres nothing worse than a non smoker(especially reformed smokers) insinuating that we must not care much about our children or we wouldnt smoke.DUH!!!!ADDICTION!M ine, i believe, is some sort of emotional addiction.I can quit for short periods at a time(few months or so), but cant seem to manage long term, and NOT for lack of trying. Not every smoker is a complete moron, and just as i smoke outside as to not compromise my son's health, maybe that could be recommended to family members who smoke. Its much more worth it to be around the children we love and come to some sort of compromise, WITHOUT compromising the childrens health or safety. I AM NOT CONDONING smoking around cfers, so plz, no one e-mail me with all kinds of crazy stuff like that, I am just simply reminding you the severity of their addiction is just as real as the necessity of our cfers health.Just my point of view. I hope all the rest of you had an enjoyable holiday(OMG thanks now that its over!) Guest guest
PATTY! My husband quit smoking when I told him that we could not marry unless he did. I, in tern, learned to cook, and make great coffee (organic, water-processed as caffeine-free as they can get the stuff. No one could believe that I had learned to make coffee and that he had QUIT cold turkey--forever! The less cheerful side to this, however, is what this can mean for the smoker. I married a man thirteen years older than me--heaven knows how long he had smoked! But he died when I was 44 and he was 57 of liver cancer resulting from metastacised lung cancer, and had had one eye removed 16 years earlier when a melanoma grew on it from a parasite called toxoplasmosis from BEEF! I applaud your taking you and your habit outdoors--I just hope that your son will not be tempted in his adolescence to try it as well. Of course, we did not smoke at all and our middle one could not resist! Quit promptly, thank heavens! Now that you have done right by your son, we want you alive and energetic on this list! Love, n Rojas, who can only imagine what you must be going through! ps I would have posted this privately, but my system does not display your full e-mail address, only your name! You just take care of you, now, too; you are as valuable as any child--I just happen to think that adults count, too! M. Guest guest
Deb, I understand your frustration. You've hit many points i addressed in my previous post.Just like you I agree whats most important is the health of your children. You have every right to stand up for their well being; our kids DEPEND on us to do that for them.Don't worry about being nice to your father-in-law.If he didn't feel bad about jeopardizing your childrens' health, why should you feel bad about correcting him? I have not intended to upset you, believe me I'm on your side,100%!No matter what our choices, addictions, or otherwise, I'm all for not hurting others while doing that.(Here in Florida when it comes to dining out we dont even have the option to hurt others, theres no smoking in ANY food establishment, and you'll never hear me argue because it IS best for all concerned) So, no more Ms. Nice Guy and lay down the law!!!With any luck he'll come around. For the kids' sake I hope so! Best of luck, Patty, mom to Ty,8wcf and 2little ones wocf > In a message dated 12/26/2003 4:55:45 PM Central Standard Time, > hark523@y... writes: > Patty, > I know that smoking is an addiction but they can be addicted and not expose > everyone else. Guest guest
Patty, I used to smoke also. So did my husband. When Abby was diagnosed, we both stopped imediately. It wasn't too hard for us. I guess that we weren't very heavy smokers. Anyway, I replaced smoking with eating and have gained plenty of weight. I am REALLY protective of my lungs now. I hope that they are healthy enough that Abby can have a lobe (living donor transplant), should it ever come to that. Buy the way... Is anyone familir with directed donor " paperwork. I hear that you can identify a recipient for your organs (they get first dibs). Have a safe New Year's! Gale > > For those who are addicted to smoking. Guest guest
, I hope you werent talking about the quilt. I do not smoke and no one smokes in my house. My sister sent my boys clothes throught he mail, from Ohio, When I went and picked up the box - the whole box smelled like smoke. Anyway, apparently they smoke in the trucks, wharehouses, etc??? If it was the quilt, the smoke smell was not because of me. Vondie Lastly, I just want to say that someone sent me something in the mail recently and when I got it, it smelled of cigarettes. Now mind you it traveled for a couple of days before it make its way to us and yet it smelled as if the person was standing right in front of me with thier cigarette. Just one more example of the power of second hand smoke.
