Guest guest
My 3yr son has been on the diet, although not completely legal (working on that!) for three weeks with Nystatin at the same time. He has been regressing HORRIBLY for the past few days (after WONDERFUL behaviors) and started not eating yestreday, with terrible stools (lasting past few days), and then started vomiting this morning. He vomits up everything, even water. My daughter did vomit though as well (not on diet a few days ago). His seems different though, especially with diarhea and loss of appetite. COuld this be die-off? ANyone else see this, especially so soon (and with Nystatin use)? Thanks - Anne
Guest guest
Hi Anne, If your daughter is also vomiting could they both the stomach flu? To keep dehdration at bay trying getting him to sip the electrolyte mix: ELECTROLYTE DRINK from the LI Listserve 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey 1/4 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp.baking soda Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours. After that, a new batch should be made. If the vomiting continues check with your doctor. Please keep us updated. Guest guest
If your daughter was vomiting, too..... then it sounds like a viral thing. The diet plus Nystatin... started at the same time? Gee whiz.... yes, he could have die-off, PLUS a virus at the same time. Does he have any fever or other symptoms? Patti Vomiting 3 wks into diet? Guest guest
Thanks for responding...ugh, what a horrible day!!!! No, he didn't have any fever. He vomited yesterday, last night (5am), and ALL morning long today. Yesterday he was better after giving him the homeopathic Ipacac, which always stops vomiting in our family, and it did yesterday. Not today. We finally had to get a prescription for Zofran, which stopped it right away. Yes, I think too that it might be viral bug, but the really strange thing is that his regressive behaviors have stopped, and he is doing MUCH better overall. It almost seemed like he was getting " junk " out of his body with the vomiting. That makes me think it could have been die-off too. The reason we are doing both the diet an Nystatin is b/c we just moved to a new state, Colorado, three weeks ago, and started with a new DAN doctor, who wanted him on Nystatin right away (we " played " around with a more holistic immune systems doctor for the past year, with little results) so we wanted to be a bit more aggressive with his tx, as the yeast and horrible dysiotic flora are still showing in his CSA (stool analysis), and are worse a year later. Doing the diet in conjunction was my idea, after talking on the phone to Stan Kurtz (DAN Conference, recovered autistic child on SCD, Diflucan, and Valtrex). Unfortunately, we are moving back to GA in a couple days due to new seizures with my 18mo dd (our " healthy " child), caused by altitude illness. UGH! Anyway, we are going to try to work remotely with our new DAN doctor, and then try to find a new DAN doctor in GA (Atlanta). Know of any good ones??? Guest guest
Hi Anne, Your case is complicated because it does seem that your son has caught his sister's infection. My son did vomit about two or three weeks after starting SCD. That might have been an initial die off reaction for my son. BTW,he now loves SCD! mimi > If your daughter was vomiting, too..... then it sounds like a viral thing. > The diet plus Nystatin... started at the same time? Guest guest
Anne, <<Yes, I think too that it might be viral bug, but the really strange thing is that his regressive behaviors have stopped, and he is doing MUCH better overall.>> This statement makes me think right away that this was at least PARTLY die-off. This is just classic. I'm glad to hear you're seeing something positive. <<It almost seemed like he was getting " junk " out of his body with the vomiting. That makes me think it could have been die-off too. >> I agree. <<The reason we are doing both the diet an Nystatin is b/c....<snip> ....we wanted to be a bit more aggressive with his tx, as the yeast and horrible dysiotic flora are still showing in his CSA (stool analysis), and are worse a year later. >> I can understand why you wanted to treat him agressively... but you've gotta be prepared for a POWERFUL combo leading to some heavy-duty die-off. I'm not surprised. It's a lot for a little body to take... so I hope things improve quickly from here and that he does well. Sounds like you've had a lot to deal with lately. best wishes, Patti
