Guest guest
Thank you to all for sharing about their DAN doctors. I am interested in what forms of therapy you use and what has been effective in conjunction with the SCD? My boys are 2 1/2 and are not in any therapy yet. We have an appointment next week with a Developmental Pediatrician and will hopefully get onboard with speech and OT with help in sensory integration issues. In reading on the internet, I have come across something called byonetics and was wondering if anyone has had positive results using this in conjunction with other therapies. Has anyone seen sensory issues clear up with diet alone? Guest guest
Donna, We started speech about five months before scd, but didn't see pretty much any results until we started the diet. We started occupational therapy about three months after starting scd, and it has helped a lot. We've also started some behavioral therapy, and that's helped a fair amount. You have to be pretty careful about getting a fantastic therapist though. Our dan doctor has us taking B12 and folinic acid. We did start seeing some good progress about two weeks after starting those. We had an eight week round of transdermal chelation that just finished last weekend. We saw huge progress every weekend that we did treatments. Our dan doctor wanted to give us a couple of months on scd before chelating because it can be hard on the gut, and she wanted to allow some good healing time. I do love Dr. O'Hara because she is very cautious about just trying out different treatments willy nilly. She knows that biomedical interventions are expensive quite often, and that isurance rarely will cover it. She doesn't want to waste our money. I'd definitely look for a dan doctor that will support you whole heartedly in scd. Dr. O'Hara feels like scd is the best diet, but says that many of her patients' parents are just not willing to do all of the work that comes with it. Gfcf is easier because there are so many commercially prepared foods available for that. I'm not getting any discount for referals, really. I do recommend Dr. O'Hara very highly, butr I hope this helps you in searching for your own dan doctor, too. Good luck. I hope I've been helpful in answering some of your questions.
