Hello Everyone,

In preparation for the 20th annual Midwest Stream Farmworker

Health Forum in November, I would like to ask the research e-group for

assistance in identifying potential topics for the research track of the

forum. For those of you who are unaware, for the last 12 years, the

Midwest Stream Forum has maintained a research track which has provided

participants with intensive lectures, focus group discussions, and networking

opportunities focusing on farmworker and migrant health research. As the

research track planning committee begins to organize for this year, we would

like to pose the following questions to you and are grateful for any

information and assistance you can provide:

·

What are some current or emerging hot topics

in farmworker or migrant health research?

·

What topics in migrant health research would you

like to see at the Midwest Stream Forum?

·

Is there any research being conducted in

particular that you believe would make for a good session at the forum?

·

Are there any speakers that you would recommend

that we contact that may be interested in presenting at the forum?

·

Are there any ideas that you want us to consider

for the delivery of MH research information at the forum, i.e. poster session,

panels, roundtables, intensives, etc.?

Please feel to e-mail or call me with any input you have on

these issues. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Josh,

I know I have mentioned this but Ptrygium is and

continues to be found at epidemic proportions in the Hispanic Farm worker

community. Its an eye disease claimed to be only eye topical but it has

become an aggressive disease causing blindness. I believe the

disease has mutated into a contagion.

Sincerely,

Rene Quintana

It is unlikely that the disease has mutated and rather the conditions which give rise to Ptrygium are more prevalent in a population that is already predisposed to it. Marc BauduyOn May 26, 2010, at 12:26 PM, "Rene J. Quintana" <rquintana@...> wrote:

Hello Marc, Its too prevalent to assume its a genetic predisposition, itsunique and something that has occurred in the last 30 years.  The reason Istate this is because I don’t recall ever seeing it as a child or growing up. Its rather disturbing. But no one is listening.
