Guest guest
i can safely say now after 4 weeks post-op that i am very satisfied with the results but i can assure you that for the first 20 days post- op I wasn't convinced at all about the surgery and its results. I felt like i was looking at a stranger in the mirror and having people constantly saying to me " you look soooooo different " didn't help. i hated my new chin. it felt too big and my face suddenly looked soooo long (when in fact it was 9mm shorter). I think the 2 week mark was one of the hardest parts of recovery for me because i was starting to feel better but i wasn't at all comfortable with the way i looked. i think as with all things it takes time. you need to give yourself and those around you time to adjust. now i walk around as if nothing ever happened and less and less people remark on my new appearance and when they do I take it very calmly and smile (well smile as much as i can since my upper lip is still quite numb and swollen). Give yourself some time to acquaint yourself with your new jaw position and bite. It's like learning to walk all over again after all, sort of. Plus as the swelling continues to get less and less your face will increasingly look better. Elaine dies mention in BTVC that most cases begin to improve in three weeks. This is no ahppening for you. (page 70, edition 10. My impression is that this diet has been difficult and sometimes confusing for you. You have tried your best and did make some errors. You may want to give it up and experiment with your own preferences if you feel they work better. You can always return at a later date and give SCD another try. The other option is to confer with an SCD counselor, submit a food log and complete a report they can provide. Most people have success with the diet but not all. It is essential that you find a program that works for you and alleviates your symptoms. Carol F. SCD 6 years, celiac
Guest guest
So I should give up? If it's not working after 5 weeks it's not going to? I have the baby going on it too (he nurses). My kids are not improving yet either; their SID issues are worse right now. I have not made many mistakes if at all. Yes, the diet can be confusing & it is stressful, but I went to great lengths to prepare for this for weeks before even starting & have been rather meticulous in implementing it. So it's me? I failed? I honestly don't know what I could be doing wrong. Michele > > > > How long typically before people see improvements when on SCD? > > > > For myself in particular, I feel worse then ever. Guest guest
Michele, Don't give up! People respond at different rates than others. You may be going through another round of die-off. This diet takes time and 5 weeks is hardly enough to gauge whether or not its working. It took me a year of yo-yoing before I found some consistent health. I do still struggle but over all SCD has kept me from surgery and some very harmful drugs. I did have to do prednisone twice but I have not had steriods since May 2005. Keep your chin up and when you feel like this get more rest, espom salt baths and pull back on what you are eating i.e. an extended version of the intro diet. ( or just asking about them?) You mentioned that you had been using a Shelton's turkey product before on GFCF , but maybe not while on SCD. I also recall a discussion about gassy veggies like broccoli. Didn't you mention cow cheese? Cow dairy may not have agreed with you. I am just taking guesses here not trying to fault your sincere efforts. Some time ago I was told that a negative reaction to an illegal can show up two weeks later. Maybe this is what happened. We do know that " fanatical adnerance " is requested for best results. How about another two weeks as Charlene suggested, and be ultra strict :-) Carol F. ( or just asking about them?) Um, No. I took an iron supp every now & then. The supp ingredients were all legal! I have been off iron for some time now. I never used steak ums since starting this diet; I only asked about them. I do not use melatonin. I used a homeopathic ONCE - about 2 weeks ago - for a bout of something. Not since. > > You mentioned that you had been using a Shelton's turkey product before on GFCF , but > maybe not while on SCD. I also recall a discussion about gassy veggies like broccoli. I have not tried broccoli or anything else gassy or " advanced " since starting SCD. I don't use cow cheese; I tried ghee & once piece of raw cow cheese - once = & baby reacted. It was all legal. I haven't had it since. > I am just taking guesses here not trying to fault your sincere efforts. > Sure. > Some time ago I was told that a negative reaction to an illegal can show up two weeks > later. And people have seen GOOD reactions making some mistakes that are no where near anything I've done; I've read it here & I know that. So I have reason to question. It may take more time; we may be very damaged. But I have to function as well. Today is a bad day; bad week. Michele
Guest guest
Hi Michele, Did you start with the intro? add foods in gradually? Are you using any supplements/meds? Any probiotics/yogurt? It may be that you are using something that you are still reacting to? Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and > > I can't imagine being any stricter.
