Guest guest
Donna, I had read someone else put it the form of PC as well and I thought I must be missing something. So thank you for clearing up my confusion on this. I know nothing of celiac disease as I don't have it. I do have SOD-sphincter of oddi dysfunction. It is a different pain that the pancreas. I honestly couldn't have told you the difference in the pain between the two in the beginning because they were so co-mingled. I can now though. It hits me more in the back than the front where the pancreas is. I feel the need to rock and can't lay back for anything as the pressure is to great. The pain is intense. It starts innocently enough but can progress to feeling as though someone is squeezing you from the right side-up! I also get a shooting pain that goes through my neck and out the bottom right side of my jaw. I swear it feels like a lightning bolt. It hurts like mad, but it isn't nearly as bad as a pancreatic attack for sure! I also feel the " need " to burp as if that will relieve the pain and pressure but it never does and there is never anything to burp out or up anyway. And always the pain is the right side of my back and shoulder. Which is the pain I felt when my GB was going bad so I wonder if that wasn't the pain I thought was GB disease. Hard to tell. There are others on this board with SOD as well. I think they go hand in hand. My specialist told me once cut, that sphincter muscle need never be cut again. But I have heard someone else on this board talk of them having it done more than once. So I don't know. I also know there are more symptoms than I am remembering right now for SOD, but at the moment I am not in the middle of an attack and as stupid as it sounds, I try hard to forget the symptoms when I am not hurting. Must be my survival instinct kicking in there. I certainly hope that both you and your son never experience it as it's really not fun and not fair with all the other problems we suffer with Pancreatitis.
