Is Tyler in a CF Care Center hospital? I just tried calling Toni

again. I keep getting thier recorder. She may be working overtime.

I'll try a couple more times. I don't want to wake up Abby and make

my son-in -law mad.

I would be pretty unhappy if Abby were roomed next to someone with

MRSA. At our hospital, I " think " that the people with MRSA and Pa

are in a separate ward from those without. One doctor visits one

ward and a different doctor visits the other ward. There are

separate nurses for each ward.

I'm not sure if it is a cf care center, at the risk of sounding

ridiculous, how will i know? All i DO know is the mrsa people are

just a few doors away, not even on the other end of the ward, let

alone on a different one.

We have an " Acredited CF center " here in Memphis and for lack of

better words, it sucks.

Nashville has all the country music, Memphis has the blues. I

suppose it is hard, specially when people do not have a degree or are

trained in something. Labor jobs are hard anywhere, hey, but we do

have the casinos, he,he.

Talk to your doctor tomorrow. Tell him that you are concerned about

the risk of infection. You may want to expedite getting out of the

hospital and complete the IV meds at home. The nastiest bugs are in

the hospitals. You don't want to be there if you can do the

treatment at home.

On the hand, if they are doing something for Tyler that you can't do

at home, the best thing that you can do is stress hand washing and

gown changes on the hospital staff. You can only do what you think

is best. There is no single right answer and you should never beat

yourself up for choices.

I hate to say this....

Savannah has MRSA and I can tell you it is scary. MRSA has been harder on her

than PA. Her PFTs really dropped after getting this. In our hospital they are

horrible about infection control. If Savannah's sputum culture shows active

MRSA she goes to the hospital. There they do another sputum culture and wait

for those results before any sign goes up or any type of infection control is

used. They will let her run all around the place and even go to the playroom. I

keep her in the room with me and the nurses think that I'm trying to punish

her or something. They say if I'm concerned just put a mask on her. Go figure.

Our doctor tells us that this is highly contagious and not just for CF

patients. At least he will back me up. As far as the nurses are concerned...

yes,

Savannah uses the same ones as everyone else. That includes lab techs, nurses

aides and dietary. The ones who use the most common sense are our RTs. Since

they

see everyone with respiratory problems they are great about washing hands and

wearing gloves, masks and gowns. Best of luck with your son.

Mom to 2 w/o CF and Savannah w/ CF
