Guest guest
Eileen.... I almost thought I had accidently replied to the wrong person earlier today. You are posting under two different e-mail/screen names, right? You are also " mrsrous " ? I realized your earlier post today was from another address and thought I might owe someone an apology. I'm glad you have the plain Nystatin now. I think you would just have been spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere if you kept the other on board. He will likely not feel well.... and it's not uncommon for a kid to lose weight. Maybe some of the other parents here who have experienced the same will post some encouraging messages to you. I'm glad to hear you are so determined. Hopefully the DAN doctor will be more supportive and helpful. Just don't listen to the other one. Try not to get too worried and I would really try NOT to force feed him.... except you do need to keep fluids going.... so if you have to give him a teaspoon at a time of diluted juice in a syringe, then so be it. Did I ask you before if he likes frozen things?? Would he go for a popsicle? You can do a fruit puree... or even a combo of fruit and a bit of squash pureed and freeze it into a popsicle. If he even took a few licks that would be positive. There is a recipe on pecanbread.com for peanut butter brownies..... I would highly recommend you try making those ... but with almond butter, instead of peanut butter at first. They are EASY to make.... and I would be shocked if he didn't like them. I have to hide them from my husband and teenage son (who aren't on SCD). No more raisins, though.... okay? Not just yet. Do you have enough help coming in and giving you a hand with the babies? Is your husband supportive of the diet? Patti We are going to continue this diet...... I appreciate all of your great advice. if i wasn't seeing such great changes in my son already i would consider quitting until there was a better time but i can't go back to the way he used to eat. that would be like giving heroin to a heroin addict. yes, i am stressed with 2 infants under 4 mos old and all of us being sick with a cold & ear infections this week but we made a decision to do this diet for our son and try to make him well. he has to be one of the pickiest autistic kids around but we are going to figure this out. i have the raw compound form of nystatin which we will mix with a small amount of juice starting tonight. i finally found friendship farmer's cheese after calling 10 places. i am freezing a lot of legal stuff that he isn't eating so i feel i have more ducks in a row now. my pediatrician finally gave me the diagnosis " failure to thrive " so we might be able to include a nutritionist or dietician in on the therapy with the feeding team for picky eaters. the pediatrician said he could still lose more weight because he has more reserves but we should start to get concerned if he loses 2 more pounds. he is down to 26# now. we are scheduled to see a DAN doctor next tuesday 10/10 so we will be getting set up with supplements. this DAN doctor is the one who told me to get my son started on the SCD before the appointment. is it necessary to do a DNA profile for $300. what would be the benefit of that test? we already did urine, stool and blood tests. Guest guest
I don't know who your dan is, but just be honest with them about what is financially possible for you. That's what my dan has said from the start. I can't give my opinion on doing a dna test because she didn't even feel that we needed that. But, she has always said that she will advise me on what she feels needs to be done, and we are to let her know if something just is not financially possible. That will also help your dan to prioritize tests, treatments, supplements, ect. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3.5yrs. asd, Ethan 5yrs., Mark 18mths. Guest guest
Mrsdeals, I read your lastest post.. have been following your posts on startingthe diet with your son. Boy have you gone thorugh it! I just wanted to let you know that I have had some stuff with my duagther starting this diet.. a little different, becuase she is pretty agreeable when it comes to food, but she is so limited .. can't tolerate foods, has allergies, etc. Anyway, we got to a place where we had lost so much wieght (5%) of her body wieght, that I was at the point where something had to give, or we had to stop SCD. Like you, I didn't wan to. So what I ended up doing was compromising. I gave her some foods that I knew weren't ok for her.. but were legal.. and mmight even impied progress.. but in the end would get us where we wanted to be: staying on the diet and healing. It's just my two cents worth.. I gave my daughter more honey than I should, and then some veges that she wasn't digeting properly ( coould see some in BM's) adn stuff like that. Then we went back and " did it right when her tastes could tolerate more foods. just an idea. And maybe you have already done this. good luck and we will be praying for your family. Hope you all get over your colds. Ellen Mom of Emma age 3 SCD over 60 days
