Guest guest
, no they do not usually give blood transfusions for open heart surgery. Mine blood transfusion was due to the procedure they did just before I had the surgery. They did a heart cath on me and they went in through my groin. Well, after the surgery while I was in ICU they pulled out the thing that was in my groin which was very long and pulled it out very fast and---wella--the blood came gushing out and they couldn't stop it. So, that's when I needed my transfusion. I'm sorry if I frightened you but it had nothing to do with the surgery itself. I'm just concerned about the blood I received. Before then I wasn't dx with any of the autoimmune diseases that I have now. Do you think it's possible?

You didn't scare me, just made me think that I should probably have some just in case. Mom Jo posted me and told me that she had her family donate for her ahead of time. I have 2 girls with the same blood type as mine, I think it would be a good idea to get some donated. I will even donate my own, just in case. I have no idea about the blood you received. Gosh it sure could be a possibility. Maybe someone else in the group would know about blood transfusions and autoimmue diseases. I will do some checking too. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention. hugs
Guest guest
Oh , that is really a good idea! Everyone should do this before any surgery. Thanks for the info. Love, Sharon
Guest guest
The only autoimmune disease I have heard about that can be transmitted by blood transfusions would be AIDS. I think if that were the case someone would have come up with something by now. Then again chemicals can do all kinds of things to us as will as I'm sure our blood. Anything is possible now that we are not so blinded by lack of education and science.
