Guest guest
In the U.S., if the label does not say " raw " , then it has been pasteurized. If it says 100% pure honey, that means nothing has been added. If it's clear when you hold the jar up to the light and look at it, then it's been filtered. I have used this brand and think it's fine. I just always make sure the label says 100% pure honey, and that it doesn't say it's raw honey. Guest guest
I've been buying honey from a market that just says pure honey. It's pretty clear in color so I thought it was fine. It's from a farm in Long Branch, NJ. Does the honey have to say pasteurized on it? I'm so upset that I could be using the wrong kind. Guest guest
Debbie, don't worry... this honey is probably fine. It won't necessarily say that it's pasteurized. If it says that it's " RAW " honey, then it has NOT been pasteurized.... but if you don't see the word " raw " on the label, then it almost certainly has. If you have the contact info for that farm, try to get in touch with them to double check.... but I think your honey is probably fine. The MOST important part is that it says it's 100% " pure honey " ... and that it's clear. Patti honey I've been buying honey from a market that just says pure honey. Guest guest
I want to post that I stand corrected about honey. It IS okay to use raw honey. I thought it wasn't. It needs to be pure honey.... and it needs to be filtered and clear... but it's okay to use raw. Sheila just straightened me out, evidenced below. Forgive me, everyone! I have not been on the list much this week.... massive dental work and working a lot.... so I am drastically and hopelessly behind on reading posts and responding. Anyway, PLEASE read Sheila's comments on honey below.... Patti Re: honey Hi Patti, Honey can be raw and be legal - it just has to be pure and clear. To be legal honey needs to be clear (has been filtered) and be pure (or labelled 100% honey). Being pasteurized or raw is secondary, the clarity (cloudy or see-through) of the honey helps determine SCD legality. The filtering which results in the clear honey removes the pollen- which can be irritating to the damaged gut. What Elaines wrote on honey: http://lyris.dundee.net/read/messages?id=217629#217629 I wish I could find some legal, local raw honey; it is supposed to help with allergies. Guest guest
Well, the label does also need to say that it's 100% pure honey.... at least in the U.S., that means nothing else has been added. Patti Re: Honey Thanks Patti, The honey I was using was Alfalfa honey..it was clear, pasteurized...I assumed it must be filtered...by it didn't say on the label. Maybe if i made a phone call they can tell me. I wouldn't surprise me if just a bit of natural sucrose not broken down was the problem. I definitely will make sure it is clear and filtered and maybe it will have to be unpasteurized. Guest guest
Silvia, That was the case with the family I was working with.... the honey LOOKED clear, but the label said " unfiltered " . Switching honey's turned everthing around for this kid. Patti Re: Honey this is very interesting to me...we've been having trouble with honey as well and i was ready to just cut it out completely. i checked my bottle and it says " unfiltered " ...however, it looks very clear. i'm going to call the company and double check. would love to be able to use honey again, and from the emails you recently sent about yeast, i do see the benefits of keeping it in. silvia Recent Activity a.. 17New Members Visit Your Group Give Back Yahoo! for Good Get inspired by a good cause. Guest guest
Hi there, I thought I'd chime in since we were the family that Patti worked with. The culprit honey said 100% honey (which is what I was focusing on) but it also said RAW. It didn't taste nearly as good as another brand we had used. When we switched out to SueBee Honey his probems immediately disappeared (like the next day.) I couldn't believe that our month long dissection of his menu to find what was bothering him was the honey...but is was.
