Hey you all!

I am having MAJOR problems finding a hotel for the

18th-26th. I am having surgery on the 21st. There

will be 2 kids and 3 adults. So I need a 2BR (want

privacy) and a kitchen. I also can't afford to spend

a whole lot. If I have to get 2 singles I will, but I

need whatever will be cheaper. Looks like I will HAVE

to rent a car, so I can be 30 miles or so away, but I

need something!!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks alot!

Kristi

BTW Med-Stay has offered NO HELP at all!!!

Kristi,

Here is some info from what I collected when I was preparing for my surgery...a

compilation of comments from other people. I don't know if any of this will

help you

or not, but here goes:

**Ask for the Duke Regional Health System Discount (Durham Regional Hospital)**

Duke Towers--The rate for Dr. R's patients is $65 a night, no meals included.

The

rooms are like mini-apartments, you have a bedroom, a bath, full kitchen and

living

room and dining area. Everything was clean and looked nice. Duke Towers is about

2

miles down the road from the hospital. They have a gorgeous pool and a laundry

room.

They even provide you with laundry detergent and fabric softener! Everything

you

could need (iron and board, microwave, dishwasher) etc. And for those of you who

are

shy about putting on a bathing suit, there are lots of heavy people around the

pool,

because there is a diet spa across the street and all the people stay at Duke

Towers.

Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Durham--It was $49 nightly, has a great pool, an

excellent continental breakfast, 6 minutes to the hospital, surrounded by stores

and

Eckerd. It was clean and comfortable. Someone else said they got a room for $39

by

asking for a medical discount. The number is (919)382-3388 Their address is

3710

Hillsborough Rd.

Extended Stay America--It's on Tower Rd just across from South Square

Mall...movie

theatres, drugstores and shopping! Near the Macaroni Grill, a Mexican restaurant

and

right off one of the main highways. It was $239 a week for the kitchenette.

The

room is on par with a Days Inn or Red Roof Inn--not spartan and ugly, nice but

not

plush. It is about 20 minutes from Durham Regional.

Wellesley(sp?) out on Miami Blvd. it is in the " triangle " for $49/night

internet

rate. It was a beautiful room. Nice plush dark green carpeting, a king-sized

bed,

full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, and kitchen stuff. It has a great pool and

laundry room with free breakfast in the morning.

Red Roof Inn--If you stay a week it is less expensive and it's within 5 minutes

of

the hospital. It cost $225 for 7 days and it was new.

s--Don't stay there...it's a dump.

Homewood Suites--It includes a full breakfast(not just a bagel) and also

includes

hors d'oeuvres. It also has a microwave and fridge in the room. The special

med

rate is $75 and it was very nice. It had a separate bedroom which was nice if

you

want to nap while your husband is up and about. They also have a nice outdoor

pool

and serve light breakfast and dinner free in the lobby for anyone with you.

There are

restaurants and a small shopping center close by and Home Depot is right across

the street.

Rental Cars:

The best price for one-week rental on cars was from Dollar Rental Car at the

airport.

You could get a small truck for $149 or a small car for $172.

I found personally found a good deal through Alamo when you use a discount

number

thru a certain group that I am a member of. Use ID # 371630 when you call to

rent a

car and you're supposed to get a 30% discount. The economy car was $158.99, the

compact would be $173.00 Call (800)354-2322

Kristi, you might try looking on the web site www.roomsavers.com for

a cheaper rate and they do have suites available. It shouldn't be

this hard when you've done everything else. There's also a site at

www.vrbo.com I'm not sure any exists in that area but I've check on

various other cities and they always have something but it is plush

at times but extremely nice and sometimes cheap too. Let me know if

this info helps in any way. I am still at the beginning stage.

Dinah told me about Duke Towers giving you a Dr. R's rate at $65.00

the rooms are like mini-apartments. You have to ask for the Duke

Regional Health System Discount. I haven't checked on it yet.

Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Durham it is $49.00 a night They

sometimes give you a medical discount for $39.00 a night phone number

is (919)382-3388. Hopes this information helps you.
