Guest guest
Hi Tracey, > To me I can't see why they seem to be hungry. They have a breakfast, then maybe a iceblock made from the apple/pear juice, lunch meat and veg, then more fruit or iceblock then tea meat and veges again. I know they're missing the biscuits and things we used to have. Do you think this could be why? Large increases in appetite are very common. Moms and Dads often find they do *a lot* of cooking and food preparation especially at the beginning of the diet. Once people start the diet they often have increased appetites for a few reasons: -they don't feel sick anymore and actually get their appetite back -their body is switching from rumen type digestion to actual human digestion -their body is healing (which will burn extra calories) - and the big one we have noticed on the children's list is that they start catching up in growth. Many have reported huge growth spurts. Their body is able to continue normal growth patterns now that it is absorbing nutrients whereas preSCD many have reported their kids were at the lower percentiles for weight and height. Put it all together and you have huge appetites. Sheila, SCD 2/01, UC 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
The dramatic hunger is yeast dying in the stomach, making more room for food, also yeast/microbes dying can cause varying degress of stomach pain from intense hunger to a bad stomachache. Things will get better. Until then, I would consider digestive enzymes to help the process along, and help get food broken down and absorbed and away from feeding fermentive organisms. www.houstonni.com Fermentation makes the stomach feel full. Starting a new diet, there is no set period of adjustment. Economizing in the kitchen gets easier as time goes on. I would go for simpler meals with simpler preparation...steamed cauliflower with cheese, butter, or olive oil, low temp baked meats, boiled chicken, stuff of that sort. Make extra and divy out portions as needed. The goal is to move into a regular schedule, but your family is in transition right now, so don't worry.
