Depending on the formula of Niacin, you will get a flush and sometime

itchyness from your capilaries dilating.

[ ] itching?

I started to

It also has alpha-lopic acid,N-Acetyl-L-Cysteinlook what I was taking

as from the files I have am trying to read as I have a disbility in

understanding on what I have read.

This one supplement that a previous ND gave me, now am wondering if it

is making me red, painful and itching? One of the things that is in it

is niacin. I guess the best way to find out is if I stop taking it.

The flush from niacin typically lasts from a half hour to an hour or so.

If the red, painful and itching skin lasts longer, it's probably some sort

of healing reaction also occurring. In this case, definitely stick with

the niacin at least until the reaction goes away. It will eventually go

away.

==>Niacin is a very important B vitamin. Cut back on the amount to

minimize the redness, flush and itching caused by it, and gradually

increase - I recommend it be taken in the B complex (if available) or

separately taking the same amount as you do of the B complex, which is

50 mgs. twice a day. Maybe you are taking too many complex things

.

In this particular multi vitamin it had to many things in it. As soon

as I stopped it yesterday the itching died down. My ND told me to stop

for awhile and that we would look at it again next month.

I usually do better on supplements that dont have a lot of everything

in it,only a one oingriendt or two.

I am giving myself injectable b12 with b-complex so this is working.

So it might have been too much.

Hey Sydney,

I know exactly what you mean. I've had mine eight

months, and it really itches sometimes, feels like its

deep inside. Last EP visit, she yelled at me for

doing pushups (some good bruising on the site, with

itching) so I quit and most of the bruising went away,

but it still itches at times.

If anyone has a good solution, I'm interested, too.

Glad to hear someone else has this problem.

Sydney,

sometimes as tissue heals & the nerve

endings start to fire again, itching does occur. Sometimes cool compresses,

lotion if the skin is dry ( & incision is healed), I’d not take benadryl

Itching?

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all having a good weekend.

I have been having intense itching on and around my ICD

implant area. I understand from some of the people at my cardiac rehab

group that it is fairly common. However, I would like to know if any of

you might know of some way to relieve or prevent it.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Thanks Janet,

I will call the doctor tomorrow about which anti-itch medicine I can take. I will try cool compresses today because the itch is driving me crazy!

I found after I had healed completely that a gritty scrub worked wonders on an occasional itch and helped soften the scar, making it less noticible. Hello ,

I guess it is just a natural part of the healing process. My doctor has given me HydrOxyzine HCL.

I have this problem also. I get occasional itching around the incision

and sometimes the ICD itself, other times, more rarely, I get a

painful/sore muscle feeling around the ICD. I had mine in back in

October, so I figure that is just the ICD settling into the 'pocket'?

HI ,

Does he have a shirt on under his cast? If he does, try pulling it

up, down, and sideways. My boys think it feels good and helps

itching. Since he is scratching enough to cause bleeding, I would

try some Calendula cream(marigold cream.) Its recommended by Miss

Mehta, she sometimes puts it on kids before casting when there is

irritation on the skin. You can find it at health stores like GNC.

It works extremely well, even better than calamyne(sp?) lotion for

itching. You probably have heard no lotions etc... but something

has to be done to stop the itching and bleeding before the cast has

to be removed do to a skin infection. Also, since the lotion would

only be going were he can reach, air circulation shouldn't be a

problem. I'm never had any problems with the cream and cast with my

boys. Let me know if you have any questions, with two boys in cast,

I have seen a lot of skin problems! Is the cast to tight in that

area, or rubbing on the skin?

Take Care!

: my guess is that it's just the normal dry, scaly skin that some people

tend to have in the winter. I'm terrible about putting on lotion on a regular

basis, then find myself itching and scratching, itching and scratching to the

point where it sometimes starts bleeding - especially on my legs, ankles.

Don't think it's related to our disease. Just that dry winter winter. Get a

good moisturizer and use it after you bathe every day and it will get better.

Hi ,

Like you've heard, a good lotion may be very useful. Brands that lots of people

like, and are well-recommended, like by derms and pharmacists, include Eucerin,

Gloves in a Bottle (not just for hands), and I think Sarna. Amlactin lotion is a

fourth.

After that, if it's not that successful, my suggestion would be to try to

increase your intake of Omega 3 fatty acids and Omega 6's, as a way of

lubricating from within, rather than just from without. Plus, there are lots of

other benefits to these fatty acids. It would be good to consult a professional

about using these, for proper balancing of the two, dosages, and all.

I hope you get benefits, whatever routes you take!

Hi Theresa,

This sounds to me like a flare up of psoriasis.

I'm not sure how many people know (I just found out) that you can have a variety

of different types of psoriasis at a time. Some the skin gets very hard and dry

and others the skins stays soft and emits a fluid.- go figure.

I have about three or four different ones and each one has a different cream to

use.

Keep checking the internet and see if you can find anything yourself because

chances are your doctor won't.

I have to wear gloves to do dishes or cleaning and keep putting cream on the

affected areas.

Hint: If your feet are hard and dry, cracking open, you might want to look up

Nerisone cream.

Good luck.

I use something called Bare Foot cream on my feet, they really itch at times

where I can't sleep at night. It stops the itch and relaxes my feet so I can get

to sleep, you can find it in the girlie dept. (womans dept where they have the

stuff for their eyes, lips, smelly stuff that women wear, at Wal-mart.

Might work and mabye won't I try anything to get relief.

I itch like crazy too. But it's like I can't find the spot to scratch, for

example it feel like my knee itches, but then I realize it's my neck. I was

thinking it was my Arava.

Psoriasin is good for it.

You can get it in most chemists in the USA.

Also sea salts very good for it can get it as moisturizer or shower gel or bath

soak.

Drink loads of water to wash out toxins that can cause scaling and redness to

get worse. Avoid cakes, chocolate, alcohol etc.

Try Bag Balm. When I was a little kid I had terrible cracking feet (who knew

I'd find out I'd have psoriatic arthritis when I turned 34!). My feet would

bleed and my socks would snag on my cuts, my mom put bag balm on them at night

and it worked.

Hi everyone, I'm new here - my son has been in his helmut 2 weeks but on and

off. We have had some issues with heat rash that cause little pustules that

break open and then scab over, so we have to leave the helmut off for a while.

The orthotist said to ask my pediatrician for prescription hydrocortizone cream,

but instead they gave me miconazole (the anti-fungal cream used for athlete's

foot, etc). They said that would help with itching too, but that it will help

prevent fungal infections. Has anyone heard of this? I find it odd to be using

that, when I am so diligent about washing it every night and making sure it's

dry. But we are in Houston and it is humid... just wanted to see if anyone

else has used this.

Thanks!

Jen
