Guest guest
Hi Kasey, << I'm finding it really hard to pinpoint my trouble foods. I've had UC > for 5 years and I still have no idea what irritates me.. I think > carrots bother me but I'm not entirely sure. >> Did you start with the intro diet? How are you cooking the carrots? What foods are you eating and how is the food prepared (meat boiled, fried, etc. Fruits and veggies peeled cooked ,raw etc...) << Anyone have some hints for what to look for? like how long after I eat a food should I feel it's negative effects? or does it just not work like that? My stomach is inflammed right now so I guess no matter what I eat it's going to hurt a little bit, but I'm just so clueless when it comes to recognizing what I can and can't eat. Any help will be a life saver cause I'm feeling lost. If you are inflammed you may need some meds to get the inflammation down. On the other hand it could be something that you are eating. If you let me know what foods you are eating and if you started with the intro I can give you a better reply. Also any meds or supplements? Guest guest
well I'll give you a sample of what I ate yesterday. A peppermint tea in the morning, banana pancake fried in butter for breakfast with some homemade apple cider gelatin. Then I had a broiled salmon fillet that I stuffed with green beans. (that was my first try on green beans and it seems to bother me more so I'll stay away from them) later in the day I had this salmon, egg, squash pancake fried in butter. I stopped having the yoghurt for a bit, and the chicken soup I was eating was 80% chicken so I stopped eating that thinking too much meet wasn't good. After that day I would say I can't tolerate eggs or green beans, but I have no idea, maybe it was the apple gelatin.. too confusing for my brain right now. > > Hi Kasey, > > << I'm finding it really hard to pinpoint my trouble foods. Unfortunately, I think you're in the group that has trouble with the green beans. You should probably avoid all types of green peas for a while also. You were thinking that carrots may be a problem and that is not suprising as intolerance of green beans and carrots seems to go together. (Even if the carrots are cooked and pureed) You may do better with these in a while after some further healing has occured. << I stopped having the yoghurt for a bit, and the chicken soup I was > eating was 80% chicken so I stopped eating that thinking too much > meet wasn't good. I was unable to eat regular store eggs - they caused inflammation within minutes of eating, but found that eggs from free range chickens were very well tolerated. You may do better with squash, peeled steamed until soft zucchini, ripe banana (yellow with lots of spots/freckles). After that you might try adding a little homemade applesauce and/or pearsauce (without the peels). It may seem like a lot of meat but if you avoid the carrots and beans and add in the squash and zucchini you'll be getting a better balance. I am also a little concerned about the apple cider gelatin. If you can avoid that for a day or two you may get the inflammation down sooner. When you introduce or readd foods back in start with a small amount each day of each food. That way if you don't tolerate it you have snt your body back to square one. Are you taking any meds for the inflammation? Any other supplements? Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of emily and daniel
