Regardless, Florida’s most forgotten – and heroic – people continue to push on and thrive. Join us from 2-4 PM on Saturday June 19, 2010 at La Estancia Apartments, 5292 Guadalupe Boulevard, Wimauma, FL 33598. This event pre-dates the work of the Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) and was begun by a handful of males in south county who wanted to “show the world what great role models we have.” Indeed, they have done a great job. We are very excited that one of our first Exemplary Fathers, Mr. Cayetano Polanco, will serve as the event’s MC. As we enter our tenth year of celebrating fathers, it is fitting to remember the twenty-two who have already been honored: 2001: Irving Castillo, Cayetano Polanco, Felipe 2002: Hipolito Avalos, Gustavo Gámez, Hernández, Santos Vela 2003: Pascual Cisneros, Reverend Cruz, Izaguirre, Victor Pecina 2004: Ysbrain Guzman, Mr. A Lara, Mr. Gualberto León 2005: Fernandez, , Alfredo ez, Baudencio 2006: Elias , n ez, Adan Ochoa 2007: none 2008: Rito Valdez 2009: none These men are not only attentive to their families but they have gone that extra mile as leaders in the communities in which they live, working and volunteering with their neighbors, churches, soccer leagues, community centers, migrant missions, and youth programs. While there are six nominees so far this year, our Exemplary Fathers will evaluate them and choose. We invite you to come join us, our partners and food sponsors at La Estancia Apartments, Lighthouse Mission, Iglesia de Dios Elim, RCMA, ’s Bakery, Ana’s Mexican Restaurant, Starbucks and more! We are still accepting tax-deductible donations for the day. Please confirm participation by phoning FICS at 813.249.8100 or 813.477.2882. The Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) is a statewide non-profit dedicated to partnering with communities to help them achieve their goals through research, services, education and training. - End - -- Alayne Unterberger, PhD Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) PO Box 16745 Tampa FL 33687 813.249.8100 Community.
