Guest guest
, when I had a herniated lower disc (pre mri) I had the old fashioned myelogram (you know, where they inject dye into your spine then xray it) He showed it to me, and I said - what? that little thing is causing all this agony? He explained that in my case it was merely that my spinal canal is narrow, so the disc doesn't have to be very herniated to be pressing on the nerve and therefore causing lots of problems. Someone else might have a bigger herniation and no problems, I was lucky and only had slight foot drop. I still have problems, but as I have been on prednisone for years now I think it keeps it all damped down. I have got one of those bed buddy's, its like a sock filled with sand and you heat in the microwave, its comforting for the neck. I have a whole collection of hot and cold packs!! I do find exercising and keeping the muscles strong helps; and of course keeping the weight down - easier said than done - then there are painkillers on top of that - I save those for the " I can't get out of bed " days. I find aleve and celebrex work best for me. I have some codeine based ones, but then I sleep more heavily and wake up stiffer! Really, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, arn't you!!! I just thank the lord I was born at this time, not 100 years earlier, as I probably would have popped off a lot earlier!!!! However if anybody had suggested I was a cissy I might have done something I later regretted, Mind you, so would he,lol. Take care of yourself, , love Liz __________________________________________________
