Guest guest
<<has anyone on the group healed or in the process of healing leaky gut and getting rid of pathogens? my husband seems to think SCD is extreme and maybe not needed for audreys issues - >> Many families who have been part of this group have experienced significant healing and positive changes on SCD. There are parent testimonies on www.pecanbread.com , and many inspiring positive reports can be found sprinkled through our archives. I would just caution you that if your husband thinks SCD is " too extreme " and " maybe not needed " , then you are bound to have less chance for success on this diet... simply because his support is critical to your success in implementing it. Has he read the book? Or explored the parent reports on the website? I really think he would need to be fully on board before you " take the plunge " . Perhaps he doesn't fully understand the principles behind the diet? <<now for diet related questions - so when the book talks about waiting for the diarohea to pass before moving to a new stage... does this apply to constipation too?>> Constipation is just another manifestation of a gut that is not functioning properly... an indication of dybiosis. Wherever the book states " diarrhea " , simply substitute you daughter's symptoms. If at any point, you still see bloating and constipation, it's too soon to move on to more advanced foods. <<question 1. the chicken or beef broth on the intro diet - is this just made with chicken carcass or beef bones and water or can you add celery for flavour but then remove it before serving?>> In the intro diet per Elaine Gottschall's book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, the intro chicken soup recipe includes carrots, onion and celery (which is removed before serving). <<question 2. on the intro diet when it says hamburger patties do you use minced beef and thats it or do you add some grated allowed vegies?>> I think it would be best for you to go to www.pecanbread.com and read through the section on the ASD Intro diet... in the " Food Preparation " link. It will give you ideas of how to manage the intro diet for your child. It's only for a couple of days, so it's okay if the diet is very simple. <<question 3. my daughter can not tolerate grape in any way shape or form... can i make the jelly with pear juice or another homemade fruit juice?>> I suppose diluted pear juice would be acceptable in her case... as long as it's homemade. There is no commercial pear juice that is legal. <<question 4. when it says apple or pear sauce in stage 1 does it mean stewed (cooked in water and pureed)?>> Yes. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Roweena, For constipation please read: 1. " Constipation " and 2. " Constipation continued " at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ > now for diet related questions - so when the book talks about waiting > for the diarohea to pass before moving to a new stage... does this > apply to constipation too? Yes, the same applies to constipation. The abopve links will explain this further. my daughter is usually (her first 3 years > of life) runny or solid and nothing in between but since going on scd > (stage 5!) she is very bloated and constipated so do i wait for that > to pass before moving onto another stage? Did you start with the intro? If not you may want to try it for 1-3 days to clear out the microbes that are likely at the root of the constipation. Then after the intro cooked peeled fruit and veggies. > question 1. > the chicken or beef broth on the intro diet - is this just made with > chicken carcass or beef bones and water or can you add celery for > flavour but then remove it before serving? For the intro I would leave it out entirely. That way you are starting at the lowest level and working up to more complex foods. Maybe even having the celery in the soup would bother your daughter? If you leave it out now and try later you'll know if she tolerates it or not. > question 2. > on the intro diet when it says hamburger patties do you use minced > beef and thats it or do you add some grated allowed vegies? You can ground beef plain or add cooked carrot to the ground beef and make broiled patties. > question 3. > my daughter can not tolerate grape in any way shape or form... can i > make the jelly with pear juice or another homemade fruit juice? Better to use homemade apple juice since it is on the intro in the form of apple cider. Just make sure the pulp is strained out and the juice is diluted half juice half water. > question 4. > when it says apple or pear sauce in stage 1 does it mean stewed > (cooked in water and pureed)? Yes, seeded and peeled, then cooked until it turns to sauce. > question 5. > in stage 2 when you can introduce various fruit cooked - does this > mean in the form of a cake or muffin or something? if not, how do > you get your kids to eat cooked fruit? the fruit wont feed candida??? It depends on your child if it feeds candida, how severe there infection is, what strains, how much they eat etc... Best to start with a little and gradually increase the amounts. My kids liked cooked fruits as a compote of various fruits together but also like applesauce, pearsauce, cooked peaches etc...
