Guest guest
I was thinking...I don't know almost nothing of PA...of course I am really scared of it...and one day my son will get it....and it has something to do with water...that is my question: Is it ok to Cf kids to have tub toys? My son loves them, but it seems like it is probably always wet inside...should I stop giving it to him to play with?? Do I have any reason to be worried about all wet things in the universe?? for sure it is a stupid question...sorry....but I need to know... love val mum to torin 10 months w/ blue eyes and black hair
Guest guest
My favorite subject! :-) Patti has tub toys that will dry/drain easily, or that can't get wet inside. Her duckies are all the sealed kind so that they can't get water in them to grow mildew and mold. Her other favorite toys are a plastic mug, and some plastic nesting boxes, and last time's shampoo bottle. The toys and cup are all easily cleanable with a soap scum remover and a bleach cleaner. There's a new shampoo bottle every week so they're tossable. It's also see through so I can check it for nasties. Guest guest
Wet things that sit around moist and therefore allow time for bacteria such as PA to grow ARE a concern ... particularly when that moisture may be aerosolized in some form (such as squeezing the old water out of a bath toy in a spray or mist form). Scientists have not yet confirmed the who, why, and where of people with CF aquiring PA from the environment and so, until they do, it is probably better to be on the safe side whenever it is reasonable to do so. In our family, we did get rid of all bath toys that could sit with water in them (rubber duckies) but found lots of fun toys for the bath (with no holes or seams that could leak) that easily dried off afterwards. One of the favourite bath toys was the big syringe that was used at clinic for suctioning mucous for a sputum sample (before my son was old enough to cough up a sample). The nurse always gave it to him as a reward after the procedure and it came apart easily to be dried out after being used for water spurts in the tub. Everyone now talks about throat swabs for the young children so I don't know if they still use the giant syringes. M Tub toys ....PA... .Is it ok to Cf kids to have tub toys? Guest guest
Hi Val, Zach's favorite tub toys are Mega Bloks. They are bigger than Legos and can dry out completely.
