Guest guest
Audrey, I can't comment on the raw eggs except to say that I've never been too concerned about my kids having raw eggs in tiny amounts like " cookie dough " . I do want to throw this in, however, and hope that you won't take offense. We actually just started ABA last week, and my therapist commented that in all of the years that she's done ABA, she has always thought it a bad idea to use food as a reward. She always uses things like high fives, lots of praise, ect. as the child's reward. If you'd like some other ideas besides food, I'd be glad to ask her for suggestions when she comes next time. She's considered the best ABA therapist around here, and had a lot of success with her kids even without using food to reward them. I'm so glad that you're already seeing both bowel and behavior results with your child. Keep up the good work. It can be a long road, but so worth it in the end. Guest guest
Who is the author for the Healing Tummies cookbook, and do you know if it is available in the UK? I've not heard of it. Thank you, Diane
Guest guest
Dear Diane: The book Gut and Psychology Syndrome (I am not advocating this book for SCD), Dr. recommends eating raw eggs to boost the immune system. Whenever I use raw eggs I always make sure they are fresh eggs from non caged chickens. Non caged chicken eggs are not a requirement on SCD. Hope this helps, Eileen Brown UC SCD 12/
Guest guest
Hi Audrey, > We started SCD 9 days ago on my 2.8 y.o. ASD son. His bowels are shaping up > nicely (and his behavior is improving daily). My mother made for him the > " ice cream " in the Healing Tummies cookbook--with the eggs, cinnamon, honey, > etc. (I realize this is a little soon on the diet to do this.) We gave him > about three bites to test it last night and, of course, he loved it. > > I was thinking of *eventually* using the " ice cream " ever so sparingly for > ABA reinforcers (maybe once or twice per week--only 1/4 cup each time). What > I am concerned about though is that the eggs are raw. This makes me feel > pretty uneasy. What are other's thoughts/experiences with this? I've been using the homemade mayo with raw eggs for the past 4.5 yrs with no problems. I use antibiotic-free, free range eggs now but used to use regular eggs. My kids love the mayo and haven't had any trouble either. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 22yrs mom of and
