I am sick, bedridden, in pain and sacring the heck out of my family.

I am at my wits end.

Anyse,

FIrst of all, if your GI is unwilling to treat you, you need to find another

gastroenterology specialist who will. A GI who is " just consulting " with your

doctor (whom I presume is a GP) for your treatment, isn't acting in your best

interests! You need to find a specialist who will personally treat you, listen

to

you, test you when necessary, and be experienced enough in pancreatitis

issues to understand and acknowledge the fact that you have a disease

where pain is a continual, ongoing problem that has to be dealt with.

Many Gastroenterologist's don't like to deal with the schedule II drugs that

many pancreatitis patients need to take in order to function. Oftentimes they

aren't that experienced with the different types of pain meds that are

available, don't know which works best, and aren't familiar with dosing

schedules. In those cases, the GI refers the patient to a Pain Management

Specialist, a licensed physician who deals with patients who require pain

medication on a daily basis. The PM doctor is comfortable with all aspects of

pain management, including ll the different types of medication, types of

physical therapy that can help with the pain, or procedures (such as a nerve

block), which can often help lessen the pain. If your doctor is unwilling to

prescribe suitable pain medication for you in a dosage that will permit you to

function, ask him for a referral to a pain management doctor, call your local

hospital and see if they can recommend someone, or get out your phone

book and find one through the yellow pages.

As long as you have chronic pancreatitis, unfortunately pain is an issue that

will occupy a large portion of your time, and the sooner that you find someone

who can treat you for it, the better off you will be, and the easier it will be

for

you and your family to handle your disease. It sounds like you've already had

your fill of unsympathetic, uncaring doctors, and sometimes we have to

search long and hard to find the ones who can help us, but it is essential to

do so if you want to regain any type of control over your quality of life.

I don't know your full story, or where you live. If you could tell us a little

about

yourself, and where you're located, there may be someone here who could

recommend a physician, or suggest ideas that may help you. You could also

check in our database section to see if any of the specialists there are in your

area.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
