Guest guest
Hi , I hope you are getting excited about your upcoming visit with Dr. Lehman. I wish the best to you. As far as SOD, I have that as well. The Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction is where the sphincter valve that controls the flow of bile and pancreatic juice malfunctions. It either clams shut (when it's not suppose to), or gets high pressure build up and causes back flow of bile and/or pancreatic juices. I can usually tell the difference also, when I am having pain. My panc pain is usually totally left sided and around to my back. My SOD pain starts suddenly and I feel that it is similar to having a heart attack. Sharp, gripping pain right behind the sternum, radiates to the left or right side, causes profuse sweating, feels like I have a HUGE gas bubble, but burping does nothing to relieve the pressure, and it is difficult to breathe or talk. My SOD attacks used to start suddenly and be a pain of 10 for about 4-5 hours and suddenly disappear. For me, the SOD and pancreatitis are both extremely painful. Luckily I now have pain meds available to take on a daily basis and the panc and SOD pain don't get too " out of hand " . Meaning, I don't have to make anymore dreadful trips to the ER!! Sorry for such a long post. I hope you are doing well today. Take care Kris in TN
