Guest guest
Hi Kwan, I was in the same boat as you are now. Prior to surgery I weighed about 105 and I'm only 5 " 2. I could eat whatever I want and never gain a pound (good ol metabolism). I was told on average you typically lose 5-10% of your body weight. That scared me so I started bulking up pre-op. The best advise came from my surgeon, a few weeks prior to surgery he said " EAT EVERYTHING IN SITE BECAUSE YOU WONT BE EATING IT AGAIN FOR A WHILE " And sadly it is true. Now 6 weeks post op and still on a soft low chew diet I look back and see how right he was. So take this opportunity to gain some weight, I was told to gain a pound you need to increase your calorie intake by about 700 and keep the same exercise level. That combined with a bit of weight lifting I was able to gain about 6 pounds before surgery. I weighed in at 111 the morning of my surgery and sadly I am now at 95 pounds. I've been told not to worry about the weight loss because as my doctor said if you want to put the weight back on once you start eating it will be quite easy. Good luck, and keep eating > Hi all, > > I'm wondering how much weight did you guys lose after the surgery. I > know that everyone is different but would like to get some idea. Guest guest
Hi Kwan, I'm approaching day 12 post op and have lost 12 lbs so far. So an average of 1lb per day. I did gain a lot of weight pre-surgery in preparation for it. I'm 5.5 " and weigh between 128 and 130 usually. On the day of surgery I was 138 and now I am 126. I don't mind the weightloss so far but I am starting to look rather thin and it's sort of scary how despite the fact that I eat a lot of calorie and protein rich food somehow my body manages to burn it up. I am sure that once I am able to eat proper food again I'll put back on some of the weight but if you are already very thin I would prepare for surgery by going to the gym and eating a lot of calorie and protein filled stuff. Maybe in addition to all the food you eat everyday add a protein shake to you daily menu. I don't have as many problems as you. Gaining weight for me was quite easy because all I did was eat chocolate chip cookies, nachos, bread and steak like there was no tomorrow because i knew i wouldn't be able to eat them for a while. Hope this helps. Sara > Hi all, > > I'm wondering how much weight did you guys lose after the surgery. I > know that everyone is different but would like to get some idea. Guest guest
We're going to be starting SCD hopefully within a month, me maybe sooner. Then I'll get the kids going hopefully. My autistic kiddo is tall & very thin. Will weight loss be a problem for him? He doesn't need to lose anything! Rather, for me, I DO need to lose weight. The scale does not budge & it's very depressing. My holistic practioner recommended a natural thyroid supplement (I have candida, sluggish thyroid, adrenal stress etc). I'm wondering if SCD will help me lose weight? Can it affect us differently in this area? Thanks much, Michele Mom to 4, LFA, HFA, various food allergies

To combat this try using good oils (olive oil, sunflower etc.) avocado, bananas, full fat homemade yogurt (if dairy is an option) etc. Initially when I began the diet my husband joined me on the diet. He had a bout 50 (stubborn) pounds to lose and I had about 40 pounds to put back on. Eating almost identical foods (except he ate a lot of peanuts as a snack food -what a pile of shells!) he lost the weight and I put it back on. Guest guest
Michele, SCD typically helps people normalize their weight. If they are too thin, they will probably gain in the long run (slight loss in the beginning could happen, but overall we see skinny kids gain weight after a while on the diet).... and those who are overweight often lose excess poundage and end up at a more average, normal weight. Guest guest
I'll second Sheila. It's amazing how the same diet works the way each individual's body needs. iel wasn't extremely skinny, but has always been a tall and slim boy. He's not chunky by any means now, but he has put on a bit more weight since starting scd in May. My husband lost about 15lbs. when he first started scd with the family. That was in about a two week time period. Then, he decided to go back eating the way he liked when he isn't with the rest of the family. As for myself and the other two children, we pretty much are going right along as normal. I was right where I should be with my weight, and have stayed there. Ethan and Mark are both growing as would be expected for healthy children of their ages. Also, I've read that efas can help with thyroid function issues. Perhaps the scd will stabilize your thyroid along with the fish oil that I remember you've already told us that you're taking. Personally, I'd hold off on the supplement recommendation that the nd gave you until you give scd a chance to work with what you're already doing.
