Guest guest
Before I clean with alcohol, I try to absorb as much moisture as possible by squeezing the foam with a dry paper towel. You might be surprised how much sweat is absorbed into the foam even though it feels relatively dry. ________________________________________________________________________ A New Way to Get Free Discounted Offers -- FreeInternet.com! Guest guest
When you use the alcohol, dont just wipe it out- scrub! Be careful not to change the shape or integrity of the foam. We used a old and rather coarse washcloth to scrub my sons STARband. We would totally douse the inside with alcohol and rub it around with our fingers. Then we would wet the washcloth with the alcohol and start scrubbing. When we would wipe it dry with a towel. After letting it dry a bit we would repeat if it still smelled like an old hockey bag. Sometime we would set it out if the sun if the weather permitted. The smell was usually gone after that!!
Guest guest
Question about all this stink... just so I can be prepared for it, about what day does the stink start? Do some babies get passed up on by the stink fairy? Cole has been in his off and on since Monday the 1st. But 23 hours since Thursday. And no stink yet and very little sweating. Thanks.- Cole received his DOCband 12/1From: jannabelle2121 <jannabelle2121@...>To: Plagiocephaly Sent: Saturday, December 6, 2008 6:50:52 AMSubject: Re: stink! Guest guest
Hey -- Not quite sure, but I would guess that all bands might begin to smell a bit after repeated wear--just as hats do. Also, there is more breathing room in the beginning as it's loose for them to grow into, but between fittings it can sometimes tighten up and leave less room for air circulation. I would suggest being proactive about it, and you might remain stink free. Even if not stinky, I would clean with the alcohol every day and wash your LO's hair. Also, the shavings help to take some of the stink out as well. H. > > Question about all this stink... just so I can be prepared for it, about what day does the stink start? Guest guest
- Lucy also started her helmet on the 1st and the stink started Friday morning after a full nights wearing. She was sweating a bit in it which is why she probably got stinky - I think the less sweat the less stink. I picked up 91% alcohol today - so I hope it helps! - Meg > > Question about all this stink... just so I can be prepared for it, about what day does the stink start? Guest guest
Well guys, I spoke too soon. I noticed as he was sitting on my lap today a slight odor of smelly feet but dismissed it as something other than my baby. But tonight when I removed it for cleaning... PU! So from my calculations it takes just 3 days of full time wear for the stink to start. I also doused it with alcohol tonight and after it dried it still smelled like feet. I once read a post on here that someone used mint scented alcohol. I havent been able to find this. Whoever was the one that said they used it, where did you get it?Thanks, Cole has a DOCband and it stinksFrom: ransomsd <ransomsd@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Saturday, December 6, 2008 11:08:24 AMSubject: Re: stink! Guest guest
How is Lucy doing in her helmet now? Cole seems to be doing pretty good. I still feel sorry for him though when I see him struggling to get comfortable I seem to only be able to find the 71% alcohol. I guess I need to start searching more places. Let me know how the 91% alcohol works. But I think I am going to utilize the sitting it out in the sun idea from another poster. Considering we are in AZ we have too much sun and I actually had to use my car A/C today... ahhhh, love that wintery weather....- Cole - DOCband (12/1/08 - present)From: Meg <mdrewapnp@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Saturday, December 6, 2008 2:24:12 PMSubject: Re: stink! - Lucy also started her helmet on the 1st and the stink started Friday morning after a full nights wearing. Guest guest
I have heard of wintergreen alcohol, but I've heard some orthos don't recommend using it. Anything besides alcohol can leave a residue in the band and irritate the skin. You should probably check with your ortho. My daughter's head did have a slight smell even after cleaning her band, but it wasn't bad, and we just dealt with it. Her skin is on the sensitive side and I didn't want to irritate it too much. -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > Question about all this stink... just so I can be prepared for it, > about what day does the stink start?
