Guest guest
Hi Mandy, Welcome to the group we are happy to have you here. The first step after you have researched this procedure and decided it is what you want is to send in the online information form. Make sure you sound educated on that form because some of the things you write will be quoted exactly in your insurance letter. The office will send you the letter for you to send to your insurance company. This is a new procedure. After you send it to them, you can start working on your packet, if you are not confident that your insurance will approve you, you might just do research and get contacts until you hear from them. There is a list of contacts on the MGB website with peoples email address's and their stats, another way is to contact people on this list who mention they would be glad to be a contact. Most all of us who have been through this, have privately emailed or called on the phone post-ops, which is considered the polite way to ask for a contact. A reply of thanks is always appreciated. Your insurance will notify Dr Rutledge of your approval, so you don't have to include that with your packet. Don't worry as long as you follow the steps on Dr. R's site you will do just fine and if you need help as you go along there is always someone that will help you. I used to read a lot of the " emails of the day " on clos.net. I think I probably read them all the way back to the beginning. You can't do too much research, because what Dr Rutledge wants is a well-informed patient. Many of us have found ourselves kind of obsessed about this as we go through the process; so don't be surprised if it happens to you. I would be glad to be a contact for you but as I am only 26 days out of surgery you might want to contact some more experienced post-ops also. Guest guest
Marvalisa, Welcome. First, download and read the patient manual. It answers so many questions, and explains things too. Once you have gotten more information, and you've kept up with the wonderful postings on this site, you will have all the answers you could want. It's a process, and it takes some time. But it is your life that you're trying to improve, right? You whole life. So it is worth the time and effort to do it right. And Dr. R won't let you get away with less. In the manual you will read all about food post-op; plus on this site you'll read the experiences of those who have gone before you! Enjoy the process, it is in your own best interest. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thank you for the additional information. I have been struggling with how soon to introduce new foods and what amount of time to wait between those introductions. I realize that it is different for each child. Just so I understand (and please forgive my ignorance), it isn't a wise thing to introduce the cheddar cheese and the applesauce on the same day. I should wait a few days inbetween (at least) before the next introduction? Only add one new food after the intro at a time and start with a small amount and gradually increase it noting any reactions/symtoms as he tries the new food. It can be tedious at first but in the long run it will speed up the healing process. As healing progresses he should be able to tolerate more variety of foods and lots of different types of snacks.
